The summer is almost over. The leaves are starting to fall and there’s a chill in the air just as Hollywood is about to heat things up for Fall movie season. Some of the biggest films of the year along with the most anticipated Oscar contenders are about to drop, so ComingSoon.net is bringing you our 2018 Fall Movie Preview , giving you the lowdown on all the comedies, dramas and blockbusters you can look forward to this season. Fall 2018 brings us some hotly anticipated franchise pictures, including the return of Newt Scamander, Eddie Brock and Arthur Currie, as well as aliens like the Autobots and those pesky Predators landing back onscreen. We also get new installments in the Goosebumps , Conjuring , Halloween , Wreck-It Ralph , Creed , Spider-Man and Dragon Tattoo franchises. The Fall also provides us with new films from lauded directors like Luca Guadagnino, Damien Chazelle, Robert Zemeckis, Adam McKay, David Robert Mitchell, Steve McQueen and The Coen Brothers, as well as one lost film from revered master Orson Welles.

Fall 2018 Movie Preview
The Nun (Sept 7)
Director Corin Hardy (The Hallow ) puts a terrifying gothic spin on the Conjuring Universe with this spinoff movie featuring Demián Bichir as a priest and Taissa Farmiga as a sister investigating the mysterious suicide of a nun at a haunted convent.
The Predator (Sept 14)
Shane Black returns to the franchise he starred in for the original 1987 film, only this time he's directing and co-writing with Fred Dekker. The story involves regular Predators, Predator dogs and a formidable new Super Predator causing mayhem in suburbia and beyond.
The House With a Clock in Its Walls (Sept 21)
Jack Black, Cate Blanchett and Owen Vaccaro star in this adaptation of John Bellairs cherished YA classic about a young orphan boy who moves in with his eccentric uncle who happens to be a warlock. Horror director Eli Roth (Hostel , Knock Knock ) makes a welcome detour into family fare.
Hell Fest (Sept 28)
Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension 's Gregory Plotkin helms this tale of a masked psycho terrorizing a group of youngsters at a Halloween-themed amusement park.
Night School (Sept 28)
Comedy superstars Tiffany Haddish and Kevin Hart star in this about a group of adult troublemakers trying to get their GED and the unorthodox teacher helping them pass. Directed by Malcolm D. Lee (Girls Trip ).
Smallfoot (Sept 28)
Channing Tatum lends his voice to this animated film about a colony of yetis discovering that humans really do exist.
Venom (Oct 5)
Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises ) returns to comic book fare as Eddie Brock, a reporter who stumbles on an alien symbiote that transforms him into Marvel's iconic anti-hero. Sony sees this film as the beginning of their own Marvel universe of films.
A Star Is Born (Oct 5)
Bradley Cooper stars and makes his directorial debut with this musical remake co-starring Lady Gaga as a young singer who finds fame even as her mentor descends into alcoholism. The film co-stars Andrew Dice Clay, Dave Chappelle and Sam Elliott.
Bad Times at the El Royale (Oct 5)
Drew Goddard of Cabin in the Woods fame returns with this 1960's-set thriller about seven strangers who encounter one another at the titular rundown hotel in Lake Tahoe. Jeff Bridges, Cynthia Erivo, Dakota Johnson, Jon Hamm, Cailee Spaeny, Lewis Pullman, Nick Offerman and Chris Hemsworth star.
Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween (Oct 12)
Although Jack Black will only return as author R.L. Stine for a small cameo, this new adventure involves Slappy the dummy trying to cause a Halloween Apocalypse. Kid-friendly monster mayhem ensues.
First Man (Oct 12)
Star Ryan Gosling reunites with his La La Land director Damian Chazelle for this biopic of astronaut Neil Armstrong and his historic walk on the Moon on July 20, 1969.
Apostle (Oct 12)
Gareth Evans of The Raid movies directs this thriller about a man who attempts to rescue his sister who's been kidnapped by a religious cult. Dan Stevens, Lucy Boynton and Michael Sheen star. The film will debut and stream on Netflix.
The Hate U Give (Oct 19)
Amandla Stenberg stars as a girl navigating between the the poor, mostly black neighborhood she lives in and the rich, mostly white prep school she goes to. Regina Hall, Common and Anthony Mackie co-star.
Halloween (Oct 19)
John Carpenter's iconic 1978 horror film gets a follow-up that ignores ALL the previous sequels and catches us up with Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) forty years after the events of the first film. David Gordon Green directs Michael Myers to a savage and much-anticipated return to the screen, with Carpenter himself providing the music.
Johnny English Strikes Again (Oct 26)
Rowan Atkinson returns for a third outing as the bumbling James Bond wannabe, forced to come out of retirement to find a master hacker. Ben Miller, Jake Lacy, Emma Thompson and former Bond girl Olga Kurylenko also star.
The Nutcracker and the Four Realms (Nov 2)
This new fantasy-oriented take on the E.T.A. Hoffmann classic stars Mackenzie Foy as Clara, a young girl transported into a magical world of gingerbread soldiers and an army of mice. The all-star cast includes Keira Knightley, Eugenio Derbez, Richard E. Grant, dancer Misty Copeland, Helen Mirren and Morgan Freeman, while Lasse Hallström and Joe Johnston share directorial duties.
Bohemian Rhapsody (Nov 2)
Despite behind-the-scenes turmoil involving director BryanSinger, this biopic of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury looks to feature a stellar performance from Rami Malek in this chronicle of the rocker's life.
Boy Erased (Nov 2)
Joel Edgerton directs and co-stars in this harrowing story of a young man pressured into attending a gay conversion therapy program. Lucas Hedges, Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe star.
Suspiria (Nov 2)
Dakota Johnson leads the all-female cast of this remake of Dario Argento's 70's horror classic, directed by Luca Guadagnino (Call Me By Your Name ). The story of a ballet company with dark secrets co-stars Tilda Swinton in dual roles, Mia Goth, Chloë Grace Moretz and the original's lead actress Jessica Harper.
The Other Side of the Wind (Nov 2)
The long-unfinished final film from master director Orson Welles (Citizen Kane ) has now finally been completed. Fittingly, the story follows an aging director (John Huston) working on an innovative comeback movie. The film will debut and stream exclusively on Netflix.
Overlord (Nov 9)
J.J. Abrams produced this non-Cloverfield horror film about soldiers in World War II fighting against evil Nazi-manufactured monsters against the backdrop of D-Day.
The Grinch (Nov 9)
While Jim Carrey may have played the role a few decades ago, Benedict Cumberbatch voices the title grump in this new animated adaptation of the 1957 Dr. Seuss story How the Grinch Stole Christmas !
The Girl in the Spider's Web (Nov 9)
After the 2011 David Fincher film The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo failed to set the world on fire, Sony is going for a soft-reboot with a new cast. This time Claire Foy is computer hacker and avenging angel Lisbeth Salander, now caught in a web of spies, cyber criminals and corrupt government officials.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (Nov 16)
Eddie Redmayne's Newt Scamander returns to the wizarding world, this time teaming up with a young Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) to take down the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp).
Widows (Nov 16)
The widows of four armed robbers step up to finish the job their husbands couldn't. Steve McQueen (12 Years a Slave ) directs an all-star cast including Viola Davis, Michelle Rodriguez, Elizabeth Debicki, Cynthia Erivo, Colin Farrell, Daniel Kaluuya, Jacki Weaver, Carrie Coon, Robert Duvall and Liam Neeson.
The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (Nov 16)
Originally intended as a six-part limited series, The Coen Brothers retooled their western anthology into a feature film. The stellar cast includes Tim Blake Nelson, Brendan Gleeson, Liam Neeson, James Franco, Zoe Kazan, Tyne Daly, Stephen Root and singer Tom Waits. The film will debut and stream exclusively on Netflix.
Robin Hood (Nov 21)
Taron Egerton stars as the title hero in an updated version that casts Hood as a war-hardened Crusader, who mounts an audacious revolt against the corrupt English crown alongside his Moorish commander Little John (Jamie Foxx). Ben Mendelsohn, Eve Hewson, Tim Minchin and Jamie Dornan co-star.
Ralph Breaks the Internet (Nov 21)
John C. Reilly is back as the voice of the bumbling Ralph, who this time around discovers the world of the internet thanks to an internet router in the arcade. Expect many fun cameos, including a host of Disney princesses who meet up with Vanellope (Sarah Silverman).
Creed II (Nov 21)
Michael B. Jordan returns in the title role, this time trying to live up to his father Apollo Creed's legacy by taking on the son of his killer, Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren). Sly Stallone returns once again as Rocky, with Tessa Thompson as Bianca and Florian Munteanu as Viktor Drago.
The Favourite (Nov 23)
Olivia Colman, Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone star in the latest bizarre film from critical darling Yorgos Lanthimos (The Lobster ). In early 18th century England, a frail Queen Anne (Colman) occupies the throne and her close friend Lady Sarah (Weisz) governs the country in her stead. When a new servant Abigail (Stone) arrives, her charm endears her to Sarah.
Mary Queen of Scots (Dec 7)
This historical biopic follows the attempt by Mary Stuart (Saoirse Ronan) to overthrow her cousin Elizabeth I, Queen of England (Margot Robbie), which finds her condemned to years of imprisonment before facing execution. Jack Lowden, David Tennant, Joe Alwyn and Guy Pearce co-star.
Under the Silver Lake (Dec 7)
This quirky third film from director David Robert Mitchell (It Follows , The Myth of the American Sleepover ) stars Andrew Garfield as a shiftless LA hipster turned amateur sleuth who sets out to discover what happened to his missing next door neighbor (Riley Keough).
Backseat (Dec 14)
Adam McKay follows up his Oscar-winning The Big Short with this biopic of much-reviled former Vice President Dick Cheney, with Christian Bale turning in another transformative performance as the VP. Amy Adams plays his wife Lynne Cheney, Steve Carell as Donald Rumsfeld, Bill Pullman is Nelson Rockefeller and a brilliantly-cast Sam Rockwell is George W. Bush himself.
Mortal Engines (Dec 14)
Peter Jackson produces this adaptation of the YA novel by Philip Reeve, about a young girl trying to get revenge on the man who killed her mother in a future where giant cities roam the world on wheels.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (Dec 14)
Fan favorite Miles Morales (the voice of Shameik Moore) finally gets a chance to shine in this animated film which finds Spider-Man crossing parallel dimensions to team up with the Spider-Men of those dimensions to stop a threat to all reality.
Mary Poppins Returns (Dec 19)
Mary Poppins (Emily Blunt) flies back into London to help a now-grown Jane and Michael Banks, along with Michael's three children, deal with a personal loss. The amazing cast also includes Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Julie Walters, Colin Firth and Meryl Streep.
Aquaman (Dec 21)
Fresh off of Justice League , Jason Momoa returns as Arthur Curry to take his rightful place at the throne of Atlantis in order to stop his half-brother Orm/Ocean Master (Patrick Wilson) from launching an all-out assault on the surface world. Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Nicole Kidman star and James Wan (Furious 7 , The Conjuring ) directs.
Bumblebee (Dec 21)
In this standalone spin-off from the Transformers saga, a young girl (Hailee Steinfeld) discovers Bumblebee and must protect him as he helps protect the Earth from Decepticons. John Cena, John Ortiz and Pamela Adlon co-star.
Alita: Battle Angel (Dec 21)
Writer/producer James Cameron teams up with director Robert Rodriguez to bring Yukito Kishiro's classic sci-fi manga to the big screen. Rosa Salazar stars as the title android who is discovered by a benevolent doctor (Christoph Waltz0 and tries to find her place in a harsh future. Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali, Ed Skrein and Jackie Earle Haley co-star.
Holmes and Watson (Dec 21)
This goofy take on Arthur Conan Doyle's classic mysteries features Will Ferrell as Sherlock Holmes and frequent co-star John C. Reilly as Doctor Watson. Noah Jupe, Kelly Macdonald, Rebecca Hall, Ralph Fiennes and Hugh Laurie co-star.
Welcome to Marwen (Dec 21)
Oscar-winning director Robert Zemeckis brings us one of the more unique offerings of the season, the true story of artist Mark Hogancamp (Steve Carell) who constructed a miniature World War II village in his yard to help in his recovery after a violent near-death beating. Leslie Mann, Diane Kruger, Merritt Wever, Janelle Monáe, Eiza González and Gwendoline Christie play the women of his imaginary world, represented in CGI animation.
