Michael Keaton and Jon Watts on Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming
Michael Keaton and director Jon Watts have spoken to USA Today about his Keaton’s portrayal of the villain Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
“My whole approach for this movie is that we’ve seen the penthouse level of the (Marvel) universe,” said Watts. “We’ve seen what it’s like to be a billionaire inventor and to be a Norse god. We’ve seen the very top of this world. But we’ve never seen what it’s like to be just a regular joe.”
“Some people see themselves as victims — he sees himself a little bit like that,” Keaton added. “He probably would have a strong argument that he never got a fair shot — a lot of ‘Why not me? Where’s mine?’”
In the film, Adrian Toomes (Keaton) runs a New York salvaging company that cleans up messes such as the ones left by big superhero battles. He becomes irked, however, when a new government organization founded by Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) steps in to take over after one altercation. Toomes and his crew — including the Shocker (Bokeem Woodbine) and the Tinkerer (Michael Chernus) — use scavenged alien artifacts and stolen advanced tech to put together weaponry to sell to other criminals.
Watts said he gets to use “this neat junk from all the other movies. It’s a really great starting point for the villains to have the Vulture picking over the stuff and finding the valuable exotic elements and having the Tinkerer assemble into something that could be used.”

Beyonce is the Frontrunner to Play Nala in The Lion King Remake
Grammy Award-winning artist and actress Beyonce (Dreamgirls) is the frontrunner to voice the role of Nala in Disney‘s upcoming live-action remake of The Lion King. Though she hasn’t accepted the role yet, she is reportedly director Jon Favreau’s first choice to play the lion, first voiced by Moira Kelly (Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me) in the 1994 animated classic, with Sally Dworsky (The Prince of Egypt) providing the singing voice.
Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 Opens March 2018!
Wreck-It Ralph is escaping out of his arcade and into the expansive universe of the internet next year when Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 hits the big screen. Dave Hollis, head of distribution for The Walt Disney Studios, revealed the much-anticipated sequel’s title and told CinemaCon attendees that Jane Lynch and Jack McBrayer would be returning to the roster with John C. Reilly and Sarah Silverman.
Also returning are the team behind the original Wreck-It Ralph, who won an Oscar last month for Walt Disney Animation Studios’ billion-dollar-box-office-blockbuster Zootopia. Directors Rich Moore (Zootopia, Wreck-It Ralph, The Simpsons) and Phil Johnston (writer, Wreck-It Ralph, Zootopia, Cedar Rapids), and producer Clark Spencer (Zootopia, Wreck-It Ralph, Bolt) are hard at work on the movie. “To take these characters we love and have them enter the enormous world of the internet has given us so much to explore,” said Moore. “Our production team has been hard at work designing a world that takes something we all think we know – the internet – but shows it in a whole new, imaginative way.”

Beauty and the Beast Reaches $690M
Beauty and the Beast added an estimated $88.3 million domestically and $119.2 million internationally this weekend to push its global total to $690.3 million ($317 million domestic, $373.3 million international) after two weeks. Now the #1 movie of 2017 domestically and globally, this is the fourth consecutive Walt Disney Studios release to surpass the $600 million mark globally, following Doctor Strange, Moana, and Rogue One. Domestically, Beauty and the Beast dropped just -49% from its substantial opening weekend ($174.8 million), bringing the 10-day total to $317 million. That’s the fourth-largest 10-day total for any film, as well as the fourth-largest second weekend of all-time.
Internationally, Beauty and the Beast opened strongly in France, Australia and Argentina this week, especially Argentina where it was the second-highest live-action admissions opening in industry history. In the UK/Ireland, Beauty and the Beast delivered the third-biggest second weekend ever (behind only Skyfall and SPECTRE) and March’s biggest ever second weekend. The film has yet to open in Japan (April 21). In IMAX, Beauty and the Beast had another fairy tale weekend, delivering $8.1 million globally on 617 screens. The worldwide total in IMAX is now $33.6 million after only 10 days.
