It’s a quieter week than most, but March 15 still brings home a number of recent big-screen hits. First up, Alvin and his brothers set off cross country in Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip. Saoirse Ronan delivers an Academy Award-nominated performance as young Irish immigrant in the 1950s in director John Crowley’s Brooklyn. Meanwhile, Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara deliver their own Oscar-nominated performances in Todd Haynes’ Carol, also set in the 1950s. Then, terrifyingly set in the very recent past, Adam McKay’s The Big Short hits Blu-ray and DVD. The film itself took home an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay and features an ensemble cast that includes Steve Carell, Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling, Brad Pitt and many more. Rounding out the week is Sisters, the recent comedy starring Amy Poehler and Tina Fey.

Outside that wide variety of narrative films, March 15 also brings home Alex Gibney’s big screen documentary, Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine.

The Criterion Collection also has a treat for collectors this week with a brand-new, fully-loaded edition of John Frankenheimer’s classic 1962 thriller The Manchurian Candidate. Although the film has already been made available on Blu-ray, this new Criterion version boasts a brand new 4K transfer.

On the small screen, the fifth season of Game of Thrones leads the charge. Also arriving on DVD only is the complete sitcom Sister Sister and the second half of the ’80s animated cartoon series The Centurions.

Debuting via Digital HD this week are Charlie Kaufman’s stop-motion drama Anomalisa, Peter Landesman’s true sports medical drama Concussion, starring Will Smith, Quentin Tarantino’s 70mm western The Hateful Eight and the recent big-screen remake of Point Break.
