Titles arriving December 22 include Pan, Pawn Sacrifice and quite a few Digital HD debuts!

With the holiday season upon us, it’s a quiet week for home releases. December 22 does bring us a few recent big screen releases. First up is the recent Peter Pan “origin story,” Pan, starring Levi Miller, Hugh Jackman and Garrett Hedlund and Rooney Mara. Then, Tobey Maguire plays the Chess champion in the Bobby Fischer biopic Pawn Sacrifice. Next, Jackie Chan, John Cusack and Adrien Brody team for the Han Dynasty adventure Dragon Blade. Finally, the faith-based release War Room comes home after earning an impressive $67.7 million at the domestic box office.
Shout! Factory has some more great cult fun this week with the first ever Blu-ray releases of both 1983’s horror anthology Nightmares and 1962’s sci-fi horror tale The Brain That wouldn’t Die. As a special treat, the latter even includes the movie’s full Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode as a bonus feature!
Small screen releases arriving December 22 include the Syfy series Defiance and Dominion. It’s the third and final season for the former and the second and final season for the latter.
While there are fewer physical releases than normal, December 22 sees a surge in Digital HD releases with the arrival of recent big screen films like Everest, The Green Inferno, Hotel Transylvania 2, The Martian and Sicario. All five are now available for purchase digitally.
