The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ trailer is finally out, providing us with a more detailed look at the upcoming Marvel movie. So what do we think of our first lengthier glimpse at the upcoming Fantastic 4 movie, and what have fans’ reactions to it been? Here’s our trailer review.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps trailer review
The Fantastic Four: First Steps is going to be a defining moment for the MCU, for better or for worse. It’s no secret that Disney has been struggling with its Marvel movies post-Endgame, as audiences clearly felt “superhero fatigue.”
First Steps looks to go back to the start, introducing Marvel’s first family into the MCU. Set in a retrofuturistic ’60s-style Earth, the trailer nails the Jack Kirby and Stan Lee early comic book style, and the four leads look the part in their old-school blue-and-white uniforms. The CG on The Thing doesn’t look quite right — animating expressions and emotions on a literal rock — but it’s still good to see a faithful visual interpretation of the character over whatever 2015’s Fant4stic had going on.
Galactus makes an appearance, but there’s no full visual shot of the character, something I hope continues until the film’s full release. Other than that, further plot details to be mined from the trailer are sparse, with it instead wisely focusing on The Fantastic Four family. Oh, and you can add a whole other star here for Michael Giacchino’s score, which is all hope and optimism — exactly as a Fantastic Four film should be.
