Every day for the month of October, Coming Soon is making a new horror movie recommendation for those eager to find a new frightening flick for Halloween. From the creepy goodness of a classy ghost story to a blood-spattered gorefest and everything in between, we’ll have something for every taste of horror. And today’s pick is…..
LET’S SCARE JESSICA TO DEATH
What’s Let’s Scare Jessica to Death about: The titular Jessica moves to the countryside with her husband Duncan and friend Woody after a brief stay in what we assume was a mental institution. As they try to “get away from it all” the trio run into a drifter in their newly purchased home. Jessica remains wary of their new friend “Emily,” while haunting voices around their home push her back to the edge of madness.
Why Let’s Scare Jessica to Death rules: Certainly a slow burn by today’s standards, the film plays with the viewer’s expectations by making us question just what the hell is even going on just like Jessica. The overall dream-like quality of the film is also a major factor as it lures you in with a false sense of security. Even Stephen King says it’s one of his favorite horror films.
How scary is Let’s Scare Jessica to Death: The psychological torment Jessica experiences can certainly be startling, viewers that don’t like having their mind messed with will feel this one burrow into their brain.
Be on the lookout for: Stars Barton Heyman (Duncan) and Zohra Lampert (the titular Jessica) both appeared in The Exorcist franchise with Heyman starring in the original film three years prior and Lampert appearing in The Exorcist III in 1990. Also a very familiar style of shot made famous by the original Friday the 13th was perfected here.
Where to watch Let’s Scare Jessica to Death: You can rent Let’s Scare Jessica to Death from Amazon Prime for $3.99, or click here to pre-order the Blu-ray from Scream Factory!
