Arriving in theaters this Friday, Oz The Great and Powerful brings back to the big screen the magical fantasy world of L. Frank Baum’s classic children’s book series. Crafted by Spider-Man, Evil Dead and Darkman director Sam Raimi, the previously untold story of the history of Oz stars James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams, Zach Braff and Joey King.
Set in the early years of the 20th century, Oz The Great and Powerful follows the adventures of Oscar “Oz” Diggs, a Kansas showman who’s equal parts magician and con man. His hot air balloon caught in a tornado, Diggs is whisked away to the fantasy realm of Oz where, accompanied by a helpful flying monkey, Finley (Braff) and a little China Girl (King), he must face off against three witches, Theodora (Kunis), Evanora (Weisz) and Glinda (Williams). As he comes to terms with his own shortcomings, Diggs must simultaneously reveal everyone’s true loyalties if he’s to save Oz and find his own way back home.
ComingSoon.net sat down to speak with Franco, Weisz, Williams, Kunis, Braff and Raimi about doing justice to Baum’s legacy and about the cinematic magic that brought Oz The Great and Powerful to life.
