Mnet I-Land 2 Episode 9 Recap: Jeemin Loses Top Spot

K-pop reality show I-Land 2 aired episode 9, in which the ranks of the contestants significantly changed. Jeemin, who scored almost a perfect score in the previous episode, saw a slight decline. Koko has been a constant fan-favorite on the show, and she finally got the limelight.

Right before the I-Land 2 finale, the scores of every test play a crucial role in deciding the fate of all 12 contestants. So many fans criticized Mnet’s decision to choose songs and positions for the members in a test, ultimately impacting the mission’s score.

In episode 9, all twelve I-Landers participated in the ‘Main Position’ battle, but they could not choose the position or the song as the mentors selected both. Jiyoon and Jungeun found themselves competing with each other. The duo did not meet eye-to-eye before the mission. So fans wanted to see if the pair could make amends after their conflicts.

I-Land 2 Episode 9 sees Jeemin’s departure from top spot

Jeemin is a certified all-rounder of I-Land 2, and episode 9 showed there is nothing impossible for the rookie star. Bang Jeemin, Saebi, Mai, Sujung, and Son Juwon participated in the Main Dancer battle. As Jeemin had the highest rank, she got to choose the ‘center’ role for Lisa’s “Money” song.

In the interim test, none of the members impressed the mentors with their rendition of Lisa’s “Money.” However, the situation improved on the main stage, where Jeemin flaunted her street-style dancing skills. While all the rookie members performed their best, fans saw a massive difference in the score.

The scores of Main Dancer Battle are:

  • Bang Jeemin: 252 I-Mate votes, 98 I-Mate score, 97 producer score, total- 195
  • Saebi: 243 I-Mate votes, 94 I-Mate score, 81 producer score, total- 175

The battle between the two main vocalists, Jiyoon and Jungeun, became the most-talked topic after I-Land 2 episode 9 ended. A long rivalry in part 1 of Mnet’s show ended in the Main Position mission when Jiyoon apologized to Jungeun.

After resolving their differences, both vocalists delivered a memorable performance of Beyocé’s “If I Were a Boy.” While Jiyoon struggled to hit a high note in the practice session, she aced her part on the main stage.
