Aespa is set to release its first full-length album, Armageddon, in May. SM Entertainment shared the album’s release date and tracklist details and hinted at its meaning in the Aespa universe.
For the uninitiated, SM Entertainment has been building the story of the Kwangya Universe, which includes Aespa‘s storyline. As per SM Culture’s Universe theory, two worlds coexist. One where humans live and the alternate world of Kwangya, where the antagonist, “Black Mamba,” resides.
Aespa debuted in K-pop with the song “Black Mamba,” in which they showed how the monster snake threatens to damage the connection between Aespa’s actual members and their ‘Ae’ avatars, aka the meta versions of them, who reside in Kwangya. Two years after the introduction of Black Mamba, Aespa’s upcoming album Armageddon will unveil the progression of Kwangya’s storyline.
Release date of Aespa’s first full-length album Armageddon & pre-released single
Aespa’s upcoming album Armageddon will debut on May 27th at 6 p.m. KST, 5 a.m. ET, 2 a.m. PT, and 10 a.m. BST. The pre-released single, “Supernova,” will drop on May 13 at 6 p.m. KST.
After the album’s official title reveal, Aespa fans took to social media to explore the meaning of Armageddon in the K-pop group’s fictional universe. Armageddon refers to the site or time of the ultimate battle between good and evil. Hence, the album’s title can signify Aespa’s final fight against evil and the quest to restore peace between Kwangya and the real world.
Reports claim Armageddon will depict the season 2 story of Aespa’s worldview, which expands into the multiverse beyond the real and digital worlds.
To convey the unique concept and Aespa’s stellar vocals, Armageddon will feature ten tracks with two title tracks, “Armageddon” and “Supernova.” Armageddon will be diverse in terms of genres. The group has combined energetic hip-hop, bright and cheerful dance songs, rhythmic modern pop, and ballads in Armageddon.
