The crossover of K-pop and Korean webtoons has become a new trend in the industry. Famous bands like BTS, TXT, and NCT have dipped their toes in the genre. The catalog is available for fans to stream on the Naver Webtoon app. If you love webtoons and K-pop, here is a list of the most popular webtoons that blew up after their release.
BTS 7FATES CHAKHO
HYBE announced the collaboration between K-pop hitmakers BTS and Naver Webtoon at the end of 2021. The BTS webtoon titled 7FATES CHAKHO was released on January 15, 2022. The track reimagined bears and beom (tiger) stories in Korean mythology. The group beautifully incorporated old-school Korean mythology with their new-age sound.
The main story of BTS’ 7FATES CHAKHO starts in the dangerous and corrupt Sin-si City. However, the plot takes a turn when monsters called ‘Beom’ visit the town to hunt humans. The webtoon has seven main characters: Zeha (Jungkook), Jooan (V), Haru (Jimin), Hosu (J-Hope), Cein (Suga), Dogeon (RM), and Hwan (Jin). The webtoon is available on Naver Webtoon.
TXT The Star Seekers
After BTS, another HYBE trendsetter group, TXT, released their Naver x Wattpad webtoon, The Star Seekers. The fantasy comic portrays an idol group residing in a world where magic and reality coexist.
But only after the plot progresses do the characters realize the importance of their magical abilities. The story shows how they learn to utilize the magic while guarding the secrets of their magical powers. The Star Seekers has five characters: Soule (Soobin), Eugene (Yeonjun), Viken (Beomgyu), Taho (Taehyun) and Avys (Hueningkai).
ENHYPEN DARK MOON
Enhypen’s Dark Moon webtoon series, released in 2022, became extremely popular among fans. The first part of the series ran for a year with seventy chapters. The webtoon also surpassed 100 million page views, becoming one of the most popular Naver Webtoon releases.
The first half of the story, Dark Moon: The Blood Alter features the world of Riverfield. The most popular boys of two rival schools here have secret identities. However, things take a turn when a new student, Sooha is transferred to Riverfield. The rivals, who happen to be vampires and werewolves get attached to her.
The second part of the series, Children of Vamfield, will be released on March 17, 2024. In this part, the fans will get an insight into the origin story of the vampires. The first part of Dark Moon has eight main characters: Heli (based on Enhypen’s Heeseung), Solon (Sunghoon), Jakah (Jungwon), Jaan (Jay), Shion (Sunoo), Jino (Jake), Noa (Ni-Ki) and Sooha.
NCT: Dream Contact
Along with HYBE artists, SM’s popular group NCT also released their webtoon, NCT: Dream Contact. In the webtoon, NCT’s universe takes a new turn through different people’s connections. The story explores NCT’s strong bond, love for music, and dreams of pursuing music and making art.
The story shows how NCT members navigate becoming idols in a functional world. The plot involves multiple NCT sub-units, making fans feel like they are part of the NCT family through the webtoon. The English version of NCT Dream Contact is available here.
Le Sserafim Crimson Heart
HYBE’s girl group, Le Sserafim, joined the webtoon trend in 2022 with their webtoon Crimson Heart. The webtoon has eight main characters, and six of them are based on the original members of Le Sserafim, including Joan (based on Kim Chaewon), Sena (Sakura), Yurina (Yunjin), Looisha (Eunchae), Yojae (former member Kim Garam).
The webtoon explores a new era coming-of-age story. The characters live in Refugia, a controlled city completely cut off from the magic of Unknown, a magical land overrun by the Blue Fireflies. The girls come across a mysterious old book one day that changes their lives. They also find a red necklace in the library. After learning about the magical land of Blue Fireflies, they go on an adventure to a strange world in search of The Island of Blue Fireflies.
