Popular K-pop boy group Stray Kids has achieved a lot this year. From performing at Lollapalooza and their appearance at the VMAs, the boy band has become one of the hottest topics in the K-pop scene. To add to the glory, the eight-member band has also won their first-ever Billboard Music Award at the BBMAs 2023. They won the Top K-Pop Album for their hit album 5-Star.
The 2023 BBMAs feature performances by artists whose music dominated the Billboard Charts between November 19, 2022, and October 21, 2023. Since Stray Kids has dominated the Billboard Charts this year, it was only fitting for their BBMA debut to be accompanied by a thunderous performance. The group performed its hit numbers S-Class and LALALALA at the BBMAs this year.
Stray Kids beats BTS’ Jimin, TXT, NewJeans & Twice at BBMAs 2023
Stray Kids took home the Top K-pop album for 5-Star at the BBMAs 2023. 5-Star is the group’s third full-length Korean studio album, which was released on June 2, 2023. In the past two years, the boy band has had three major Billboard Chart domination. They received No. 1 on Billboard 200 with 5-Star, Maxident, and Oddinary. Most recently, the boy band also received their fourth No. 1 with their album Rock-Star.
Moreover, Stray Kids beat many of their fellow K-pop artists to win the award. They were nominated against BTS’ Jimin (FACE), NewJeans (Get Up), TXT (The Name Chapter: Temptation), and TWICE (Ready To Be). According to Billboard, Stray Kids’ 5-Star crowned the Billboard 200 chart in June 2023. It also spent a total of 16 weeks on the chart.
Reportedly, group members Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Hyunjin, Han, Felix, Seungmin, and I.N were ecstatic with their first win at the BBMAs 2023.
Leader Bang Chan thanked fans on behalf of the group. He said, “Without the love and support from everyone, we would probably not have made it this far, and if wasn’t for the people that have been running by our side this whole time, the music that we create would not have been able to reach the people in need.”
Meanwhile, Changbin spoke in Korean and teased some amazing music for fans in the future. He said, “Thank you for loving the albums, music and performances that shows our group’s unwavering color. We have a lot in store, so please keep an eye out for us and all of the amazing things that we have ready.”
As mentioned earlier, Stray Kids performed their hit numbers S-Class and LALALALA for their BBMA debut. With their military-inspired ensembles to their solo dance breaks, the group managed to win fans’ hearts. Besides, they also placed themselves among the future K-pop legends.
