Frankly Speaking episode 5 aired on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, on JTBC and Netflix. Starring Go Kyung-Pyo, Kang Han-Na, and Joo Jung-Hyuk, the K-drama currently focuses on the lead characters working together in a reality dating show.
In the previous episode, Song Ki-Baek (Go Kyung-Pyo) felt like a failure after quitting his job. On Woo-Joo (Kang Han-Na), too, struggled to begin her new variety show. In the end, she swallowed her pride and cast her ex-boyfriend, Kim Jung-Heon (Joo Jong-Hyuk). The final scene hinted at Ki-Baek agreeing to help her as well.
Episode 5 begins with Woo-Joo proposing an offer to Ki-Baek. She says she will help him with his condition while he can help her with her show. Hence, Ki-Baek becomes one of the participants in Woo-Joo’s dating show. It also stars top star Jung-Heon, who has a past connection with Ki-Baek.

In Frankly Speaking episode 5, Woo-Joo’s colleagues doubt her decision to bring in Ki-Baek as a participant. They think Jung-Heon may not like the idea, but the top star agrees. For context, Jung-Heon is Woo-Joo’s ex-boyfriend who wants to date her again. Therefore, he wants to do her show.
The shooting of the reality dating show begins. Three girls and four guys participate in the variety show. During the introduction segment, Ki-Baek messes up as he fails to control his tongue and reveals that he is unemployed. Although his first impression is ruined, his competitive side adds entertainment to the show. Furthermore, it seems he provokes Jung-Heon, who ends up being the hero for viewers.
Meanwhile, Ki-Baek forms a connection with his assigned partner. She makes a deal with him, stating they will pick each other in the first round. His kindness makes the production team wonder if he likes his partner. On the other hand, a flashback features Ki-Baek and Jung-Heon’s past connection. It seems they were close friends and might have ended their friendship because of a girl.
Ki-Baek struggles with his performance on the show because of his condition. It becomes difficult for him to control his tongue, but his strange behavior makes for good content for the producers. Aside from this, the episode also focuses on Ki-Baek’s caring side for Woo-Joo. He pretends not to know her before the show to protect Woo-Joo’s image.

Frankly Speaking episode 5 also features Woo-Joo exploring her feelings for Ki-Baek. She seems concerned about him all the time, but a misunderstanding upsets Ki-Baek.
In one of the interviews, Ki-Baek learns that he has been hired to portray a villain image so that Jung-Heon can shine on screen. Ki-Baek assumes that Woo-Joo had asked him to join her variety show for the same reason. Towards the end of the episode, the participants are given a task to find clues while trekking in a jungle.
Ki-Baek takes a different route with his partner and falls down a slope. His partner informs the production team, and Woo-Joo runs into the jungle to find him. When Jung-Heon learns that Woo-Joo has left, he becomes furious at the producer. In the jungle, Woo-Joo finally finds Ki-Baek and treats his twisted ankle.
Woo-Joo asks him why he is upset with her. In response, he mentions that he is disappointed with her because of her intention behind hiring him. Woo-Joo tries to explain that Ki-Baek has misunderstood her. Hurt, Ki-Baek asks, “What was the potential you saw in me? What was it that you saw in me?” She replies, “My heart fluttered. And right now…my heart is fluttering.” Her response leaves Ki-Baek shocked.
