The trailer for the upcoming tvN K-drama The Midnight Romance in Hagwon begins with Seo Hye-Jin sharing her 14-year experience as an instructor in the popular Daechi-Dong neighborhood. She reflects on witnessing dozens of first-place graduates from different schools over the years. As a teacher who knows nothing about the outside world other than her work, Hye-Jin prides herself on helping students achieve greater heights.
However, her life changes when one of her former students, Lee Joon-Ho, meets her at the academy, right when she thinks about him. Joon-Ho, the pride of Daechi-Dong, studied under Hye-Jin and got admitted to a prestigious university. As time goes by, Hye-Jin keeps bumping into him. In a conversation with his friend, Joon-Ho promises to become a self-made man and achieve success. He leaves his high-paying job, aiming to become an instructor in the same academy as Hye-Jin.
By the end of the trailer, Joon-Ho recalls his feelings for Hye-Jin, confessing that she’s indeed his first love. Meanwhile, Hye-Jin only grows more confused regarding her feelings towards Joon-Hpo. She contemplates whether liking him and breaking the existing teacher-pupil relationship is the right thing to do. Eventually, her life turns upside down when Joon-Ho reveals that he resigned to become an instructor at the same academy as hers.
At the end of the trailer, Hye-Jin begins to care for and grow fonder of Joon-Ho, as the latter remains determined to pursue his first love.
