Episode 1 of the brand-new K-drama The Brave Yong Soo Jung aired on MBC on Monday, May 6, 2024. The drama stars Uhm Hyun-Kyung, Im Ju-Eun, Kwon Hwa-Woon, and Seo Jun-Young as the central characters. In the first episode, the series introduces the audience to the younger versions of the story’s three main characters. It includes young Yong Soo-Jung, Choi Hye-Ra, and Joo Woo-Jin.

Episode 1 of The Brave Yong Soo Jung begins with a young Soo-Jung stuck inside a room that has caught a massive fire. She is calling for help. Meanwhile, her mother is trying to break down the door and save her. She finally enters the room but soon collapses due to the fire and smoke. Then, the episode returns to the near-past. At this time, viewers see that Soo-Jung has a loving mother and father; however, her mother is suffering from cancer.
For some reason, her parents have to go to the countryside. They decide to leave Soo-Jung at the house under the care of another woman, Geum Han-Yang. She also has a daughter named Choi Hye-Ra. Both Geum Han-Yang and Choi Hye-Ra turn out to be quite mean. Later on, the news of Soo-Jung’s parents going missing in a terrible landslide comes out.
After hearing the news, Han-Yang decides to act like the owner of the house and starts treating little Soo-Jung very poorly. One day, she even threw her out of the house in heavy rain. While standing all alone and crying outside, she meets a kind man named Yong Jang-Won, who treats her with food.
After that, The Brave Yong Soo Jung episode 1 shows another young boy, Joo Woo-Jin. He belongs to a very wealthy family. While on his way, he ends up meeting a woman, Lee Young-Ae. He is unaware that the woman is none other than his birth mother. Later on, when he tells his mother, Min Kyung-Hwa, at home about the woman he has met, she realizes that it is his birth mother. Min Kyung-Hwa then asks a man to get rid of the woman, as she can ruin her position in the house.
Then, in the episode, viewers see Soo-Jung’s mother suddenly returning to their house one day. Seeing her outside, Geum Han-Yang becomes flustered and panics. She then immediately locks Soo-Jung inside a room to hide her poor condition from her mother. However, when Soo-Jung’s mother enters the house, she soon realizes what has been going on. Thus, she immediately starts looking for her daughter.
In the end, The Brave Yong Soo Jung episode 1 returns to the moment at the very beginning. Soo-Jung’s mother collapses while trying to save her from the fire. Soo-Jung is also unable to come out of the fire on her own and is frantically calling for help. The episode ends right there.
