MBC recently shared the Chief Detective 1958 episode 5 trailer, featuring Lee Je-Hoon in the lead role. The comedy cop-crime K-drama revolves around Detective Park Young-Han and his team of four unlikely detectives fighting against corruption.
In the previous episode, Young-Han, Kim Sang-Soon (Lee Dong-Hwi), Cho Kyung-Hwan (Choi Woo-Sung), and Seo Ho-Jeong (Yoon Hyun-Soo) solved an infanticide case. Additionally, Young-Han shared his first kiss with Lee Hae-Joo (Seo Eun-Soo). The episode also showed the talented detective helping Grandma Ho’s grandson, Sung Chil, learn to read and write. Towards the end, Sung Chil rescued a few villagers from the wrath of gangster Viper’s men.
The trailer of the upcoming episode 5 features the death of Sung Chil, leaving Young-Han devastated. He gathers his detectives to catch his friend’s killer.

Chief Detective 1958 episode 5 trailer teases Lee Je-Hoon breaking down over his friend’s death
The Chief Detective 1958 episode 5 trailer begins with detectives Young-Han (Lee Je-Hoo), Sang-Soon (Lee Dong-Hwi), Kyung-Hwan (Choi Woo-Sung), and Ho-Jeong (Yoon Hyun-Soo) learning about Sung Chill’s death. They are shocked and heartbroken as the four had gotten closer to Grandma Ho and Sung Chil while eating at her place regularly.
Despite being devastated, Young-Han tries to ask for any clues from the villagers. However, none of them are ready to become witnesses due to the gangster Viper’s fear. Kyung-Hwan’s love interest, Geum Ok, mentions that she is confident that Viper’s men have killed Sung Chil.
Young-Han barges into Viper’s office and beats up his men. In agony, he asks Viper why he killed his friend. Viper questions back if he has any evidence. Defeated, Young-Han seeks comfort in Hae-Joo’s company and mentions that he knows the murderer but cannot do anything.
Young-Han doesn’t give up, which gets him into trouble. Chairman Lee warns him, “Either die or work for me and chase fortune and glory.” The trailer ends with Young-Han offering a proposal to Chairman Lee.
Chief Detective 1958 episode 5 will air on Friday, May 3, 2024, at 9.50 p.m. KST on MBC. It also streams on Disney Plus.
Chief Detective 1958 episode 4 recap & spoilers: Lee Je-Hoon, Lee Dong-Hwi & others solve an infanticide case
Chief Detective 1958 episode 4 begins with detectives Young-Han (Lee Je-Hoo) and Sang-Soon (Lee Dong-Hwi) taking over Unit 2’s case regarding a missing infant. With the help of Kyung-Hwan (Choi Woo-Sung) and Ho-Jeong (Yoon Hyun-Soo), the Unit 1 detectives learned that a total of 10 infants had been murdered recently.
They dig deeper, which brings them to an orphanage run by a well-known lady, Audrey. Because of her connections to the elite community, the detectives fail to find evidence against her. Therefore, Young-Han and his men plan to question the family of each missing and dead infant. They connect the dots and learn that a regular cosmetic-selling lady picks up the infants and sends them to the orphanage.
At the orphanage, the caretaker gets rid of the babies with any deficiency. On their visit to the orphanage, Sang-Soon tries to befriend a kid who looks suspicious. When Young-han asks Sang-Soon why he wants to solve the case desperately, the latter mentions that he is an orphan, too.
Towards the end, Young-Han and his team manage to summon Lady Audrey. But her political connection almost set her free. This is when Sang-Soon brings in the kid he befriended, who becomes the witness to Audrey’s crimes. Eventually, the Unit 1 detectives solve an infanticide case. Meanwhile, Young-Han gets closer to Hae-Joo and shares their first kiss.
