Gray Shelter episode 5 recap & spoiler: Jang Woo-Young avoids Lee Jae-Bin after their first kiss

In Gray Shelter episode 5, things end on a bitter note between Cha Soo-Hyuk (Jang Woo-Young) and Lee Yoon-Dae (Lee Jae-Bin) after their first kiss. Soo-Hyuk doesn’t return home the entire night while Yoon-Dae waits for him. The next morning, Yoon-Dae meets his friend, Kyun-Woo, and asks if he can keep his belongings at his dad’s warehouse. Moreover, he requests that Kyun-Woo lend him some money.

Kyun-Woo doesn’t refuse to help him but lectures him to become responsible and plan his future. Yoon-Dae gets frustrated and yells, “If I knew [how to plan], I wouldn’t live like this! What else can I do now?” Kyun-Woo becomes silent after realizing Yoon-Dae’s pain.

Later, Yoon-Dae returns home and sees Soo-Hyuk packing some documents. The former tries to stop the house owner, making many excuses, but Soo-Hyuk doesn’t listen. Yoon-Dae comments, “I didn’t do that on impulse. Avoiding me won’t change things,” referring to their kiss the other night. The two get involved in another argument when Soo-Hyuk calls their kiss a mistake.

Things get worse when Soo-Hyuk taunts him to sleep together, leaving Yoon-Dae annoyed. The latter says, “Let’s talk when you’re honest with yourself. I’ll wait for you quietly.”

Gray Shelter ending: Did Jang Woo-Young & Lee Jae-Bin end up together?

In the Gray Shelter finale, Soo-Hyuk (Jang Woo-Young) continues to avoid Yoon-Dae (Lee Jae-Bin). He even spends a few nights at his workplace while Yoon-Dae gets drunk at home. The latter calls Soo-Hyuk and makes multiple excuses so that Soo-Hyuk comes home. Eventually, he gives up, and they cut the call.

The next day, Soo-Hyuk’s boss gets a call for home service to fix an appliance. When he looks at the address, he learns it is Yoon-Dae who has made the call and thus convinces his boss that he will take care of this assignment.

When he arrives home, Yoon-Dae mentions that he won’t bother Soo-Hyuk anymore, as he doesn’t want him to stay away from his own house. A sudden change in Soo-Hyuk’s behavior confuses Yoon-Dae as the former asks him out for a meal. As they eat together, Soo-Hyuk makes small talk, and Yoon-Dae soon feels at ease. The latter teases Soo-Hyuk that he imagines a normal life will include having someone to share a meal with.

Towards Gray Shelter’s ending, Soo-Hyuk tries to give money to Yoon-Dae, which breaks the latter’s heart. He thinks that Soo-Hyuk wants him to leave with this money. Yoon-Dae tries his best to make Soo-Hyuk open his heart to him. Eventually, they decide to part ways but stay in touch. The episode ends with Soo-Hyuk calling Yoon-Dae and asking about his well-being.

Gray Shelter director and writer Lee Son-Eum has given the story an open ending. It is for the viewers to decide whether they feel Soo-Hyuk and Yoon-Dae’s separation is best for them or whether they should have become a couple.

Consisting of 5 episodes, the Korean BL drama aired every Thursday on Heavenly.
