Goodbye Earth is an upcoming South Korean drama series on Netflix. Starring Ahn Eun-Jin, it revolves around people surviving the chaos days before an asteroid is set to destroy planet Earth.
News of the asteroid crashing into Earth breaks out 200 days ahead in the peaceful city of Woongcheon. With the continuous sound of sirens and the terror, while awaiting an asteroid strike, the town turns upside down. To maintain peace and safety, a few heroes come forward and fight against time.
Goodbye Earth is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by a renowned Japanese author, Kotaro Isaka. Director Kim Jin-Min (known for Extracurricular and My Name) has helmed the series, while the screenwriter is Jeong Seong-Joo (famous for Secret Affair and Heard It Through the Grapevine).

Goodbye Earth cast includes three main characters – Jin Se-Kyung (Ahn Eun-Jin), Woo Sung-Jae/Damiano (Jeon Sung-Woo), and Kang In-Ah (Kim Yoon-Hye).
My Dearest actress, Eun-Jin, plays Jin Se-Kyung, a middle-school teacher in Woongcheon. She fights hard to save her students from danger when she learns about the impending asteroid strike. Se-Kyung quits her job and joins a child and youth division at city hall. In a recent press conference, Eun-Jin opened up about her role in the drama. She said, “Playing a teacher, I spent a lot of time with young actors who played students. I held their hands tightly while shooting, and although it was just for acting, I felt a great sense of duty that I should protect them.”
Another lead cast member is Jeon Sung-Woo, who plays the role of Woo Sung-Jae, an assistant priest. After the news broke out, the main priest at a Catholic church ran away. So, Sung-Jae steps in and takes care of the community, shaken by the news.
Meanwhile, Kim Yoon-Hye plays Kang In-Ah, a battalion commander. She makes sure that peace and safety remain intact among people during this difficult period.
The K-drama Goodbye Earth also stars Yoo Ah-In as Ha Yoon-Sang, a researcher at a biotechnology research institute in the US. He returns to South Korea to spend the remaining time with his long-time girlfriend, Jin Se-Kyung. At a recent press conference, director Kim Jin-Min dished on reports of editing Ah-In’s part amid his drug case controversy.
Jin-Min said, “When the issue broke out, I was actually in the middle of editing the third episode. Coincidentally, it was a time when I thought that I wanted to edit the story all over again, after understanding new, important parts in the later episodes. So I edited as a whole.”
Goodbye Earth release date & more
Goodbye Earth premieres on Friday, April 26, 2024, on Netflix. Consisting of 12 episodes, the K-drama will likely release all the episodes at once.
The synopsis on Netflix reads, “As an asteroid hurtles towards Earth with nothing to stop it, one determined teacher fights to keep her former students safe — no matter the cost.”
Aside from the aforementioned four cast members, the series also stars Seo Ye-Hwa, Yoon Seo-Ah, Hong Woo-Jin, Kim Min-Chul, Kim Yeo-Jin, Kang Suk-Woo, Kim Young-Ok, Kim Young-Woong, and Im Ki-Hong.
Director Jin-Min stated in the latest press conference that Goodbye Earth is a “very unique dystopian genre series.” The story is not about survival but focuses on what people of all ages do when they have only 200 days to live.
