Blood Free’s writer talks about her trust in Han Hyo-Joo and Ju Ji-Hoon
In an interview as reported in Xports News, the writer, Lee Soo-Yeon, shared the first impressions she got from the actors. While talking about Ju Ji-Hoon, she said, “It was important for ‘Chae-Woon’ to look cool. The pain of the past, the present that cannot escape from it, and the occupational characteristics of a soldier turned bodyguard. I needed the charm that comes from this setting. However, what is stronger than the setting is the charm of the actor who will play the character.”
She further added, “So, when I first saw actor Joo Ji-hoon, I thought, ‘He should definitely do it.’ I didn’t meet him when the casting was confirmed. The actor sat down first at the meeting, so I didn’t feel it at first, but while we were talking about action movements, there was a moment when the actor suddenly stood up. At that time, I remember thinking, ‘Wow, it’s Chae-Woon. He must do it. He shouldn’t be criticized.’ If I was impressed by the appearance at first, it wasn’t until later that I realized how fortunate it was that actor Joo Ji-hoon played the role of ‘Woo Chae-Woon’. In the process of writing the script one episode at a time. I owe a lot to actor Joo Ji-hoon for actively giving his opinions and helping me perfect the character of ‘Woo Chae-Woon.”
Lee Soo-Yeon continued while talking about Han Hyo-Joo’s character in Blood Free. She said that she wrote the character as someone who is struggling and empathetic but will always move forward. She shared, “My first impression of actress Han Hyo-Joo was very strong. In my opinion, actress Han Hyo-Joo was like a cosmos. But when you actually see it, you’re like, ‘It’s solid!’ I got that feeling. At that time, she was in the midst of exercising a lot for her role. But apart from that, she had the feeling of being ‘unshakable’.”
Blood Free is slated for release on April 10, 2024, on Disney Plus.
