Kwak Dong-Yeon shares his views on being an actor
Talking to Arena Homme Plus, as stated in My Daily, Dong-Yeon shared how he utilizes his strengths. He said (originally in Korean), “In my case, I have big eyes and dark double eyelids. When I use those features well, I think I can convey emotions more intuitively and strongly. It’s not just about being good-looking and not being good-looking. I don’t think it’s a question of how you look, but a question of how effectively you can convey your emotions.”
Further explaining how he chooses his scripts, Kwak Dong-Yeon shared, “It’s a first impression. It’s the same as when I meet someone. I think about whether the character in the script is attractive to me. At the same time, I wonder if I can show a new side of myself in acting, and if there are recent changes and growth that I think about, and if the character can reflect that. “I try to understand these things while reading the script.”
Kwak Dong-Yeon debuted in the industry with My Husband Got a Family in 2012. Since then, he has been working hard to prove his worth as an actor. When asked what kind of person he would like to be remembered as? Kwak Dong-Yeon answered, “I want to be an actor that makes people curious. For example, ‘Exhuma‘ was released recently. When you see the trailer for ‘Exhuma’, the first thing you think is, ‘Does actor Choi Min-Shik do the occult?’ You do it. You watch it even if you’re curious about it. Because senior Choi Min-Shik has built up trust through his acting. In that respect, I hope I can become an actor who gives curiosity and trust at the same time.”
Watch Kwak Dong-Yeon’s performance on Queen of Tears every Saturday and Sunday on tvN and Netflix.
