Anime adaptations into live-action series and films are not new. But not much into Korean dramas. It’s a dream come true crossover when we watch K-dramas inspired by anime storylines.
K-dramas, from rom-coms to thrillers to horror genres, are now quite famous worldwide, and people enjoy them. One such series for which fans are eagerly waiting is Parasyte: The Grey.
In anticipation of the upcoming drama, let’s have a look at some K-Dramas Inspired by Anime:
Parasyte: The Grey
One of the most highly anticipated dramas, Parasyte: The Grey, is being made based on the anime of the same name. The storyline of the series follows the same premise. The narration is set where tiny aliens called Parasites can take over a human’s brain after getting through their ears and nose.
The anime story follows a 17-year-old boy, Shinichi Izumi, who gets infected by a parasite as it gets into his arms, but somehow his brain remains intact. In the course, he finds himself fighting other parasitic attacks.
In the Netflix K-drama, the parasite fails to infect the protagonist Jung Soo-In (Jeon So-Nee). She later joins the human force to fight against the parasites so that they cannot take over the world. The journey isn’t going to be smooth for her, as evidenced by the teaser of the series.
City Hunter
Based on a popular manga series of the same name, City Hunter is one of the most loved K-dramas headlined by Lee Min-Ho. The series also features Park Min-Young as the female lead.
The anime’s storyline follows a detective and sweeper, Ryo Saeba, who solves cases like James Bond and his partner Hideyuki Makimura. However, amid these missions, he never fails to pursue women in Tokyo.
But things take a quick turn after someone kills Hideyuki, and his sister Kaori steps into her brother’s role. Love blossoms between them, and the story unfolds further. There’s not much difference between the anime story and the K-drama.
Boys Over Flowers
Boys Over Flowers comes from the manga and anime Hana Yori Dango. The storyline is set in an elite high school named Eitoku Academy (Shin Hwa High in the K-Drama).
It follows a poor girl entering a school filled with rich boys, but all are pure hearts of gold. But there’s a catch. Who will pursue her, and who will she choose? Headlining by Lee Min-Ho, the series is quite popular among the audience.
Playful Kiss
Itazura na Kiss is a popular manga series by Kaoru Tada. Playful Kiss is a 2010 K-drama based on that. The storyline is similar for both of the series.
It narrates the story of an unpopular girl, Kotoko Aihara (Oh Ha-Ni, in the K-drama). She is usually dim-witted. But one day, she musters up her courage to confess her feelings to the boy she likes, Naoki (Baek Seung-Jo). However, she faces rejection instantly.
But fate had different plans for her. She ends up living with Naoki’s family, and slowly, their friendship blooms into love. These series are light-hearted and fun to watch.
As we discussed the crossover between anime and K-dramas, all the fans are waiting for Parasyte: The Grey with bated breath. The series is set to release on April 5, 2024.
