Starring Rowoon as Sim Jung-Woo and Cho Yi-Hyun as Jung Soon-Deok, The Matchmakers has been one of the most popular K-dramas of 2023. In the previous installments, the lead pair faced many ups and downs. Although The Matchmakers episode 14 started with heartbreak, it ended with a shocking reunion.
After Park So-Hyun’s warning, Jung-Woo decided to cut ties with Soon-Deok. He feared for her safety in her in-laws’ house, which is why he sacrificed his love. While Soon-Deok was shocked by his decision, she was not ready to give up her feelings for him.
Later in The Matchmakers episode 14, viewers saw her confessing her love to Jung-Woo. The ending of the episode was shocking because the maidens’ wedding ceremony took place. However, viewers wondered why the lead characters were taking part in the rituals.
The Matchmakers episode 14 ending: Cho Yi-Hyun & Rowoon appear as bride & groom
The Matchmakers episode 14 begins with the introduction to the four brides and grooms. Thanks to Jung-Woo’s Ssangyeonsulsa connection, the crown prince finds his bride. He is set to marry the first daughter of former matchmaker, aka Maeng Sang-Choen’s wife. The second daughter is matched with farmer Yoon Boo-Gyeom, while the youngest will marry Inspector Jung Soon-Goo (Soon-Deok’s brother).
Meanwhile, the late Left State Minister’s wife, Park So-Hyun, who killed her husband and brother in a previous episode, hatches a plan. She gets permission to marry off the three sisters along with her daughter, Jo Ye-Jin, at her house. Ye-Jin is scheduled to marry scholar Lee Shi-Yeol. So-Hyun tells her daughter-in-law that she wants the group marriage at her residence to build her social status after it gets affected due to her late husband’s wrongdoings.
Soon-Deok is against her mother-in-law’s intentions but has no power to oppose her decision. Hence, viewers see So-Hyun and Soon-Deok prepping for four weddings at her house. The Matchmakers episode 14 ending features the brides and grooms arriving at the venue. The crown prince appears with his brother-in-law, Jung-Woo.
The brides and grooms appear in the ceremony hiding their faces, as per the wedding ritual. The episode ends with Soon-Deok and Jung-Woo’s shocking expressions as they see each other as bride and groom. It seems they take the places of a runaway couple. The K-drama‘s latest installment finishes on a cliffhanger, adding curiosity about whether or not they end up getting married for real.
The Matchmakers episode 14 spoilers: Jung-Woo accepts Soon-Deok’s love
The Matchmakers episode 14 features Jung-Woo (Rowoon) falling into depression after breaking up with Soon-Deok (Cho Yi-Hyun). He does so to protect her from her mother-in-law, So-Hyun. He maintains his distance from her, but she doesn’t want to give up on their love.
In episode 14, Jung-Woo finds out that the fated love of Ssangyeonsulsas dies early in their marriage. He visits the three maidens’ mother, who was a former Ssangyeonsulsa. After confirming with her, Jung-Woo blames himself for his late wife, aka the princess’ death.
While coming out of the maidens’ house, he encounters Soon-Deok. She insists on telling her what’s bothering him. She then comforts Jung-Woo and says that he should not blame himself for the princess’ death but instead should find the murderer.
Later, when the two help the real Yeo Joo-Daek reunite with her lover, An Dong-Gun, Soon-Deok hugs Jung-Woo. She asks him to stop acting like he doesn’t love her and promises him that she will be with him. When he asks how, she says, “I do not know the way yet. However, do not worry. I am the best in Joseon at bringing two people together.” The two share a heart-fluttering moment.
The Matchmakers airs new episodes on Mondays and Tuesdays on KBS and Viki.
