Episode 3 of Vigilante intensifies the search for Kim Ji-Yong or the vigilante. However, Ji-Yong witnesses the arrival of a brand new vigilante, promising more suspense and drama.

Vigilante Episode 3 welcomes a new vigilante on the scene

The third episode of Vigilante begins with the investigation team reflecting on the vigilante’s past cases. Headed by Cho-Heon (Yoo Ji-Tae), the team looks at the news, which is riddled with copycat vigilantes punishing criminals. The higher-ups blame the original vigilante, Kim Ji-Yong, for his bad influence, asking him to stop shaking the judicial system of the Republic of Korea.

Reporter Choi Mi-Ryeo (Kim So-Jin) looks into the delivery man murder case and asks her colleague to contact the criminal (Choi Gyu-Ho), who killed the delivery person, and get his interview. While she does this for the vigilante to take notice, the latter is somehow already on the case. Ji-Yong discovers the CCTV footage of how an accident turned into murder. He also notices that the criminal only received a sentence of 14 months.

A fellow student enters the office and asks Ji-Yong as to why he hasn’t slept yet. The latter makes an excuse and avoids further questions. However, the air between the two seems eerie, almost like they know something about each other. The following day, Ji-Yong leaves to meet the criminal and sees the victim’s mother arguing with him. Gyu-Ho reveals that he was only given a 14-month sentence and is now free, pushing the victim’s mother to the ground.

Ji-Yong follows Gyu-Ho, however, someone with a mask and a computerized voice ends up killing the criminal as he proceeds to take a bath. Meanwhile, Ji-Yong returns home and helps an old lady who sells cardboard for a living. She, in turn, gives him two chocolates as a token of gratitude, which he gladly accepts.

The following day, Gyu-Ho’s death becomes public and the investigation team lands on the scene. As they grapple to understand the events, reporter Choi Mi-Ryeo is more shocked at how the vigilante killed Gyu-Ho when the news hadn’t gone out of the newsroom. Meanwhile, another news reporter analyses three more cases, including a 40 year-old woman and a minor, who have fallen prey to the vigilante’s actions. However, it ends up being the new masked vigilante.

When Ji-Yong is at the university, chaos ensues as the masked vigilante sends a message to the media. He promises more vigilante activities and Ji-Yong stares at the masked face intently. When fellow students discuss the recent murders, Ji-Yong confidently replies that it wasn’t the vigilante’s actions. Upon asking how he knew, Ji-Yong ends up making an excuse. The police also believe that it wasn’t the vigilante, but Cho-Heon refuses to believe them.

Choi Mi-Ryeo holds a debate after receiving much criticism about not being able to make a show with the vigilante. The higher-ups accuse vigilante of killing the criminals, claiming that it was affecting the families. However, the reporter explains that the same can be said about the victims and their families. She blames the issue on people’s lack of law-abiding spirit and civic consciousness. Ji-Yong takes note of reporter Mi-Ryeo.

The same night, police catch a copycat vigilante. However, Cho-Heon understands that it isn’t who they are looking for. Meanwhile, a car driver hits the old lady selling cardboard just because she wouldn’t move her vehicle ahead. Witnessing the scene, a shopkeeper beats him. Eventually, the old lady dies, and the criminal is in custody.

Ji-Yong learns that the criminal claimed temporary insanity and unintentional mistake. The criminal also sued the man who hit him while helping the old lady. The vigilante promises to make him pay for his crimes after learning that he is treated in a hospital.

As soon as the news reaches the police and the media, they try to track the vigilante in the hospital. However, Ji-Yong manages to enter the criminal’s hospital room after sending the security downstairs using an excuse. He strangles the criminal but gives him a second chance. Ji-Yong asks him to confess his crimes and to ask for the maximum sentence. If not, then the vigilante promises to make him suffer.

By the time the police reach the room, Ji-Yong leaves the hospital. However, as the police try to track down Ji-Yong, the masked vigilante appears and kills the criminal. Just as Ji-Yong is about to leave, he witnesses the criminal being thrown from the building on top of a car. He runs and follows the masked vigilante’s car and gets into it. Upon asking who he is, the masked man replies, “Nice to meet you, Ji-Yong.” The episode ends with the two smiling at each other.

The first four episodes of Vigilante are currently streaming on Disney Plus.
