Here’s everything to know about the Netflix series Doona!
Doona! release date, plot, cast and episodes
Doona! will premiere on Friday, October 20, 2023, on Netflix. It will feature a total of nine episodes, which, as per IMDb, will be released on the same day, making it the perfect binge-watch for fans this weekend. The story involves two people from completely different backgrounds, who share a space together, and eventually fall in love.
The plot revolves around Lee Doona, who suddenly quits being a K-pop idol member of a famous girl group. While dealing with the consequences of her decision, she also shares a house with university freshman student Lee Won-jun. While they initially start off as friends, the two begin spending quality time with each other until she falls in love with him.
Netflix released the official trailer in early October, which began with Lee Doona’s determination that she would never fall for Won-jun. The clips document their respective lives prior to meeting each other, with Doona noting how they came from different universes. Won-jun considers how their fortuitous meeting at the same station came about “purely by chance.”
As the two begin to spend time eating, traveling and cycling together, they have butterflies and sparks start to fly. Won-jun says, “That’s why I feel so unfair. You’re the one who came and shook me up out of nowhere. But now, I’m the one who wants you to be mine so much, it’s driving me crazy.” Clearly, the two fall in love with each other, but fate and circumstances bring as many obstacles as possible.
Bae Suzy makes her grand K-drama comeback as Lee Doona and Yang Se-jong plays the role of Lee Won-jun. Other cast members include Ha Young, Park Se-wan, Kim Min-ho, Lee Yoo-bi, Kim Do-wan, Lee Jin-wook, Go Ah-sung, Janet Suhh, Choi Ri-an, and more. The series is helmed by director Lee Jeong-hyo, who also directed other iconic K-dramas like Romance Is a Bonus Book, and Crash Landing On You.
Doona! will release on October 20, 2023, at 5 p.m. KST, 8 a.m. GMT, 4 a.m. ET, and 1.30 p.m. IST on Netflix.
Doona! preview showcases chemistry between Bae Suzy and Yang Se-jong
Netflix released a couple of preview clips of Doona! and it is safe to say that the chemistry between the lead couple, Lee Doona (Bae Suzy) and Yang Se-jong (Lee Won-jun) is already electrifying. In the first clip, Doona is seen walking up to Won-jun in his class and sitting beside him, all while noting that the two are from completely different universes.
Initially, Won-jun doesn’t recognize her but is soon shocked to learn that Doona is sitting beside him. In another clip, the lead couple spend time together at the university when Won-jun asks Doona if people recognizing her is bothersome. Doona, however, reveals she’s good at hiding her identity, with even Won-jun not recognizing her.
As the two walk back, Doona warns him to not fall in love with her and Won-jun assures her that won’t happen. But as fate would have it, the duo’s passionate love story and its development will be what make the storyline interesting.
