Strong Girl Nam-soon has lived up to viewers’ expectations, and the proof lies with the premiere episode that aired on Saturday, October 7, 2023, on JTBC and on Netflix. The K-drama is the spin-off to the beloved 2017 series, Strong Girl Do Bong-soon.
Strong Girl Nam-soon follows the story of three generations of women who hold extraordinary powers as they investigate drug-related crimes around Gangnam. Lee Yoo-mi stars as the lead, Gang Nam-soon. She embarks on a mission to find her parents and flies to Korea from Mangolia for the same.
According to Nielsen Korea and reported by Soompi, Strong Girl Nam-soon’s premiere achieved an average nationwide record-high rating of 4.3%, ranking first in its time slot across all cable channels. Meanwhile, the original 2017 drama received a 3.8% rating for its premiering episode.
Strong Girl Nam-Soon Is off to a Great Start Following Its Premiere on JTBC and Netflix
After Strong Girl Nam-soon was announced, viewers had been eagerly waiting for the K-drama to hit their TV screens. This excitement can be primarily attributed to the fact that this was a dedicated spin-off to Strong Woman Do Bong-soon. Starring Park Bo-young and Park Hyung-sik, the drama soon became a classic among K-drama fans.
The excitement around the 2023 spin-off increased after multiple reports confirmed that Strong Woman Do Bong-soon’s beloved lead couple will be seen making a special appearance. Besides, they have already filmed their cameos. In a recent live session, Bo-young also confirmed that she and Hyung-sik will be posting a selfie that they took while filming the spin-off. However, they can’t post it until the cameo airs.
With such hype created by the predecessors, it was assumed that Strong Girl Nam-soon won’t achieve the same success. However, despite being a spin-off of such an iconic drama, it hasn’t failed to create it’s own identity. The 2023 drama stars several popular K-drama stars, including Lee Yoo-mi, Ong Seung-wu, Byeon Woo-seok, Hwang Geum-joo, Gil Joong-han, Joo Woo-jae, and Lee Seung-joon, among others.
