Is Trisha Krishnan’s Brinda Series Based on True Stories?

Trisha Krishnan’s latest web series, Brinda, is creating quite a buzz as it premieres on Sony LIV on August 2, 2024. This investigative thriller, featuring a gripping plot and a dark twist, has sparked curiosity about its connection to real-life events. The series explores themes of superstition and mystery, leaving viewers wondering whether it draws from true stories.

“Learnt about certain practices”: Director reveals the inspiration behind Trisha Krishnan’s Brinda

Brinda draws inspiration from real-world themes of superstition and ritualistic practices, but it is not a direct depiction of any specific real-life incidents. The series was developed by writer-director Surya Manoj Vangala, who was motivated by his research into ritualistic and superstitious practices. In his own words, “In 2015-16, I read about an incident in Uttar Pradesh. I then learnt about certain practices in other regions as well. Extremely polarising debates on these issues got me thinking.”

This research into dark and controversial practices provided the foundation for the series’ plot. However, while Trisha Krishnan’s Brinda is inspired by these real-world issues, it is ultimately a work of fiction.

Before becoming a law protector, she was chosen as a kid to be sacrificed to appease the gods. However, she ultimately escaped. As the story progresses, the focus shifts to Brinda as an adult, now serving as a sub-inspector in Hyderabad. Known for her stern demeanor and strained relationships, she is faced with a series of horrifying murders that hint at a larger, sinister plot. The series follows her investigation into these crimes, uncovering disturbing truths about both her own past and the criminal world she is confronting.

Apart from Trisha, the stellar cast also includes Indrajith Sukumaran, Ravindra Vijay, Anandsami, and Rakendu Mouli. Produced by Ashish Kolla under Adding Advertising LLP, Brinda is available to stream in multiple languages. It includes Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Bengali, and Hindi.
