The eagerly awaited Kota Factory season 3, released on Netflix on June 20, 2023, brought answers to many of the previous season’s cliffhangers. Fans were eager to know the fate of Jeetu Bhaiya, Vaibhav, and his friends regarding the IIT JEE exam.
However, the series ended with another cliffhanger, as the protagonist, Vaibhav Pandey, failed the exam. This unexpected ending left fans wondering why the makers chose this path for the lead. Recently, the series writers revealed the reasoning behind this decision.
Kota Factory season 3 writers reveal why Mayur More’s character Vaibhav failed IIT JEE
Ever since its release, Kota Factory season 3 has been in the headlines, from its surprising yet heartwarming plot twists to the never-expected ending. To the extent that fans have left poor IMDb ratings because the makers decided to fail Mayur More’s character, Vaibhav Pandey.
In a recent interview with India Today, the writers Pravin Yadav, Puneet Batra, and Manish Chandwani provided the reason for this decision. Puneet Batra explained that the journey that started in the first two seasons needed a realistic closure, highlighting the harsh realities faced by many IIT aspirants.
“Out of 1.1 million students, only about 11,000 secure a rank, meaning that 99% of students, even those expected to succeed, do not make it. We had to show that the hero doesn’t succeed,” Puneet emphasized.
Furthermore, one of the critical reasons why Vaibhav failed in Kota Factory season 3 was his mental state. Puneet pointed out that the series subtly hinted at this. Just before the exam, a significant line was said: “Tayaari tumhari puri hai, aaj ke din kya important hai ‘temperament’ sirf aur sirf tumhara temperament decide karega ke aaj kya hai.” (Your preparation is complete, but your temperament will decide your success today.)
For those unaware, Vaibhav couldn’t sleep the night before the exam due to anxiety. Unable to sleep, he found himself in a panic the next day, even arriving at the wrong exam center. He panicked further when he barely made it inside as the gates were closing.
Despite the setback, the writers assured fans that Vaibhav’s story is far from over. The ending of Kota Factory season 3 is not the end of his journey.
