After several delays, Vishwak Sen’s latest Telugu film, Gangs of Godavari, hit theaters on May 31, 2024. As it enters its second week in theaters, a major OTT giant has announced its availability for streaming on their platform. However, in a surprising revelation, the film will be accessible in multiple languages except Hindi.
Krishna Chaitanya directed Gangs of Godavari, which was produced under the joint banner of Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas. Alongside Vishwak, it stars Anjali, Neha Shetty, Nassar, Hyper Aadi, P. Sai Kumar, Madhunandan, and others in prominent roles.
Set against the backdrop of the 1990s and early 2000s, the film centers around a local man named Rathna. Initially, he commits petty thefts but soon becomes the right-hand man of the local MLA Dorasami. However, Rathna’s involvement in politics entangles him in the feud between Dorasami and Nanaji. With this gripping storyline, the film received positive to mixed reviews upon its theatrical release.
Gangs of Godavari gets Netflix release date after 2 weeks in theatres
The streaming OTT giant Netflix recently announced on Instagram that they have scheduled Gangs of Godavari for streaming on June 14. Additionally, the film will be available in only four languages: Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada.
The announcement on Instagram reads, “Godavari may change its course every season, but Tiger Ratnakar is coming to etch himself for eternity. Gangs of Godavari coming to Netflix on June 14 in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada!”
However, the absence of a Hindi dubbed version elicited disappointment from fans in the comments section. One netizen expressed, “I can’t understand why you people don’t share Hindi dubbed movies. Because all over the world atleast 70% people understand Hindi. Netflix and Prime request you please share good South Hindi dubbed movies.” Another user simply asked, “Why not Hindi?”. Moreover, a third inquired, “Hindi me kya problem he (what’s the problem with Hindi).
For now, Gangs of Godavari will only be accessible to the Southern audience. Whether the platform will announce its availability in Hindi remains to be seen. Stay tuned for further entertainment updates.
