Prabhas is returning to the silver screens with a brand new role in the upcoming film Kalki 2898 AD. There is a significant buzz around the mythological sci-fi dystopian film. Soon after its trailer was released, fans tried to decode its plot. However, the mystery surrounding the film plot continues despite the sneak peek that its trailer provided. While it is a few weeks away, the discussion around its hefty budget is going around.
It has been reported so far that Kalki 2898 AD is expensive. In an interview with Deadline, Prabhas also revealed the reason behind the budget of Kalki 2898 AD. He said, “The whole film is made for international [audiences]. That’s why it’s the highest budget and we’ve got the best actors in the country.” In addition to Prabhas, it has Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan, and Disha Patani in pivotal roles.
Reports have claimed that the movie’s budget is around $72 million, which makes it one of the most expensive Indian films. However, there are questions whether the film is the most expensive project in the country.
Kalki 2898 AD budget is more than 2.0 and RRR?
According to a report by Forbes, the most expensive movie ever made in India is 2.0. The Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar-starrer was allegedly made on a whopping budget of $68 million. The second film on the top 10 most expensive movies list is SS Rajamouli’s RRR, which was made on a budget of $65.8 million.
The list is then followed by Adipurush ($60 million), Ponniyin Selvan 1 ($60 million), The Good Maharaja ($47.8 million), Saaho ($51.5 million), Radhe Shyam ($38.9 million), Thugs of Hindustan ($37 million), Brahmastra ($36 million), and Samrat Prithviraj ($36 million).
Interestingly, Prabhas already has three movies on the list – Adipurush, Saaho, and Radhe Shyam. His last film, Salaar, also had a massive budget but could not make it to the list. Now, if the reports are to be believed, Kalki 2898 AD will become the most expensive movie in India.
Kalki 2898 AD will be released on June 27, 2024.
