Director Elan’s views on his upcoming film
Director Elan has poured considerable effort into bringing his vision to life with Star. The film began in 2020 under a different production, with Harish Kalyan initially set to lead the role. However, after a hiatus in 2021, makers revived the project, with actor Kavin stepping into the lead role. Interestingly, Star originated from a story inspired by a short film called Messai, which Elan had written for a friend.
In a recent interview, Elan opened up about the inspiration behind Star. He said, “When writing a story, I write only when something impacts me, and the incessant trolling that stars have been facing on social media has been hurting me. So I thought, ‘What if I show the journey of a person with dreams of becoming an actor?’ Then the hardship in that story should make people empathize with the struggles of the artists.”
Reflecting on the new star journey the director said, “Everyone who posts a reel on Instagram imagines themselves to be a star while doing so. A connection is made there; further, we can even talk to stars. The fact that audiences nowadays are also aware of the journey the current generation of stars has faced contributes to this.”
Further, he continues, “So, they understand the hardship behind the journey. With Star, I didn’t want it to just be a film on cinema.
