G.V. Prakash has been making waves in South cinema with his recent string of releases. His latest venture, the survival thriller film Kalvan, premiered in theaters on April 4, 2024, and received mixed reviews from the audience. Following its theatrical run, viewers are now eagerly awaiting its digital streaming release. Recently, the OTT giant confirmed that Kalvan will start streaming within a week.
Based on true events, the film delves into the conflict between man and wildlife. It centers around two friends who are willing to risk their lives without fear, even attempting to capture a wild elephant for a reward. However, the protagonist’s life takes a turn when he falls in love with a girl during the pursuit of the elephant.
Penned and directed by P.V. Shankar, Kalvan has been produced under the banner of Axess Film Factory. Alongside Prakash, the film features Bharathiraja, Ivana, Dheena, G. Gnanasambandam, Vinodh, and others. Made with a budget ranging from $478K to $598K, Kalvan managed to gross around $435K within a week in Tamil Nadu alone.
When is GV Prakash’s Kalvan coming out for OTT?
The long-awaited moment has arrived for fans eagerly awaiting Kalvan’s OTT release. Recently, the OTT platform Tentkotta announced that Kalvan will be available for streaming on the platform starting May 10, 2024. However, it’s worth noting that this movie will be accessible to audiences beyond India for the time being. As per Tentkotta’s X (Twitter) account, it serves as the premier legal streaming platform for non-Indian audiences.
Interestingly, director P.V. Shankar revealed an intriguing detail about Kalvan to the Times of India. He mentioned that the film features a sequence with a herd of six to seven elephants shot live without the use of VFX. Reflecting on this aspect, Shankar said, “Usually, such scenes are shot in a foreign country like Thailand, but we trained the elephants and shot this in Palakkad, Kerala. GV Prakash also trained with the elephants for four to five days. Generally, the risky shots will be done separately with elephants and separately with artists. But it is not the case here.”
As of now, Kalvan is currently available only for overseas audiences. Meanwhile, it will be intriguing to see when it becomes accessible to Indian audiences. Stay tuned for more OTT updates.
