The Girl On The Train Ending Expained & Spoilers: How Did Aditi Rao Hydari’s Movie End?

Netflix’s adaptation of Paula Hawkins’ best-selling novel The Girl on the Train is directed by Ribhu Dasgupta. The film, which was released on February 26, 2021, captivated global audiences with its intricate plot and riveting finale. The Hindi-language film stars Parineeti Chopra as Mira Kapoor and Aditi Rao Hydari as Nusrat. Mira is a troubled alcoholic and former lawyer whose life spirals out of control following a personal tragedy.

Why did Mira follow Nusrat?

The Girl on the Train revolves around Mira Kapoor. Mira develops an obsession with a seemingly perfect couple she views from her daily train commute. Her life takes a dramatic turn when, during one of her drunken escapades, she decides to follow the woman, Nusrat. She follows Nusrat into a forest, only to wake up the next day with no memory of what transpired. Soon after, Nusrat is found dead, and Mira finds herself as the prime suspect in the murder investigation.

As the investigation unfolds, several other suspects emerge. The suspects include Nusrat’s abusive husband Anand, her dance teacher, and a private detective hired to follow her. However, the police, led by Inspector Dalbir (played by Kirti Kulhari), accumulate substantial circumstantial evidence against Mira. Desperate, Mira escapes police custody and begins her own quest to uncover the truth. She is driven by fragmented memories and revelations about Nusrat’s unhappy marriage and affair.

The narrative takes a sharp twist, revealing that Mira’s ex-husband, Shekhar, was also romantically involved with Nusrat. On the fateful night, a confrontation in Greenwich Forest sees Shekhar strike Mira, causing her amnesia. It is revealed that Nusrat, pregnant with Shekhar’s child, was initially thought to have been killed by him during their altercation. However, the actual murderer is unexpectedly unveiled as Inspector Dalbir.

The Girl On The Train ending: Why was Dalbir after Mira?

Inspector Dalbir is driven by a deep-seated vendetta against Mira, whom she blames for her father’s suicide in prison. Dalbir, having manipulated events from behind the scenes, had also orchestrated the car accident that led to Mira’s miscarriage and memory loss. On the night of the murder, Dalbir had followed Mira into the forest, intending to kill her for revenge. When she found Mira unconscious, her plans were thwarted by Nusrat’s unexpected awakening, forcing her to kill Nusrat to eliminate any witnesses.

The climax unfolds at Walter’s house, the private detective, where Mira confronts Dalbir. A tense confrontation ensues, culminating in Mira fatally shooting Dalbir in self-defense. This results in her unearthing the truth.

The film closes with Mira deciding to overcome her alcoholism and start anew, illustrated through a poignant musical montage and a reflective voiceover. This ending not only provides closure to the tumultuous events but also delivers a message of resilience and redemption.

The Girl on the Train is a compelling story of mystery, betrayal, and the quest for truth, driven by strong performances, particularly from Parineeti Chopra. Its intricate plot makes it a standout thriller that resonates with a diverse audience, securing its place as a must-watch on Netflix.
