Ranbir Kapoor recently starred in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s directorial Animal. It was one of the most awaited movies of 2023, yet it received mixed reviews. While some found the movie thoroughly entertaining, others debated that it was problematic. Despite the reviews, the film came out to be a huge success in the theaters. Moreover, after its arrival on the streaming giant Netflix, the movie broke records with its massive viewership. Throughout the debate, several Bollywood stars shared their opinions on the movie. The latest one to do so is Vidya Balan.
During a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Vidya Balan addressed the gigantic success of Animal. Talking in favor of the movie’s triumph, Balan mentioned how its makers “unabashedly” narrated the story that they wanted to tell. She said, “They were not apologetic, or second-guessing or what the audiences want. When they were telling the story, they said it unabashedly with an abundance and look at the way it worked.”
The Bhool Bhulaiyaa star continued, “People have just connected to it. So I really think its the guise of the time is just telling a story, being unapologetic, that’s what it is.”
Vidya Balan reflects on Animal’s success
Further in the interview, Vidya Balan addressed how Animal was being attached to misogyny. She did not seem to agree with the reviews and said, “That’s another layer to it and a very basic level if you look if you look at the film, there can be many conversations around any film, but I’m saying it’s the conviction with which the story is told that did not let people’s attention drop even for a second. You were gripped through and through. You may agree with something, you may not agree with something but it’s extremely gripping, it’s therefore, entertaining.”
Besides Ranbir Kapoor, Animal featured an ensemble cast. It included Rashmika Mandanna, Tripti Dimri, Anil Kapoor, Shakti Kapoor, Bobby Deol, and more. The movie’s plot follows the story of a son who goes the extra mile to ensure his father’s safety.
