12th Fail is directed by renowned and supremely talented filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra. Chopra, known for his dedication to crafting compelling narratives, expressed his confidence in the film’s ability to resonate universally. In an interview with Variety, he shared his excitement about the film’s reception in China during the Asia-Europe Young Cinema Film Festival in Macau. The film received a standing ovation at the film festival.
“The people will relate to the struggle of the protagonist” – Vidhu Vinod Chopra on releasing 12th Fail in China
“We had a standing ovation in China. And for me, that was very gratifying,” Chopra revealed. “The audience’s reaction was incredible. I have no doubt that this film will do very well.”
Chopra also highlighted the film’s theme of struggle and the transformative power of education. The director emphasized 12th Fail’s potential to connect with audiences beyond borders. “Not only in China, but in every market where there is struggle… wherever that is, the film will do very well, because the people will relate to the struggle of the protagonist,” he explained.
Chopra attributed 12th Fail’s success to its sincerity and honesty in a world where it is often rare. “Perhaps because it’s an honest film, made with honesty and it propagates honesty… and in today’s world, honesty is really in short, short supply. So, perhaps because of that, it connected with so many people,” he stated.
Despite his illustrious career and numerous hits in the Indian film industry, Chopra remains committed to his passion for filmmaking rather than its commercial aspects. “I’m just going to make movies all my life till I’m alive,” he declared. “I’m not interested in the business of cinema. I’ve never been.”
12th Fail is slated for release in China this year, with expectations running high for its reception among Chinese audiences.
