Currently, Vijay Devarakonda’s latest film, Family Star, is running in theaters. Amidst criticism from fans, an OTT giant has confirmed that the film will be available to stream on the platform. Directed by Parasuram, the film features Vijay Devarakonda and Mrunal Thakur in lead roles. The duo is accompanied by Divyansha Kaushik, Jagapathi Babu, Vennela Kishore, Ravi Prakash, and others.
The Times of India has awarded Family Star a score of 2.5 out of 5, pointing out several factors, mostly for its lackluster script. This suggests that the film might not have met the audience’s expectations.
The Times of India wrote, “Despite its promising setup and strong performances, ultimately falters due to its unengaging screenplay and lack of emotional depth in key relationships. While the lead actors deliver commendable performances, the film’s narrative fails to maintain momentum, particularly in the second half. Nevertheless, the movie showcases moments of humor and charm, alongside decent technical aspects.”
When & where is Family Star coming out for OTT?
Recently, Amazon Prime Video organized an event to unveil its upcoming releases on the OTT platform, including Family Star. Their official account on X (formerly Twitter) confirmed the news, stating, “Follow Govardhan’s quest for success amidst challenges and love interests. #FamilyStar available post-theatrical release.” This announcement indicates that the film will be available for streaming after its theatrical release.
As per the general trend in South Indian cinema, viewers can expect Family Star to be available for streaming approximately 45-60 days after its theatrical run. It will be intriguing to see when the makers officially announce its OTT release date.
Additionally, in response to the negative reviews, producer Dil Raju expressed his views and said “In Kerala, a court has directed to stop publishing reviews for three days after a film’s release. Something like this should be enforced here too for the betterment of our industry. We made a good movie, please come to the theatre and watch it. If you like it, tell it to others.” Overall, Raju highlights the importance of supporting films in theaters despite any negative feedback.
