Crew, directed by Rajesh A. Krishnan, is a delightful comedy featuring three talented actresses. Tabu, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Kriti Sanon delivered outstanding performances and showcased the essence of female camaraderie in Bollywood. The film has also been successful in garnering fabulous box office numbers.
Crew revolves around three air hostesses who work for the fictional Kohinoor Airlines. Tired of being treated poorly, they decide to take matters into their own hands after a peculiar incident on one of their flights. What ensues is a comical heist adventure filled with witty banter and lighthearted moments.
Why was the flight stopped?
The film begins with a tense scene at an airport as a flight is halted just before takeoff. This is due to rumors that three female passengers were attempting to smuggle gold into the city of Al Burj. Diya (Kriti Sanon), Geeta (Tabu), and Jasmine (Kareena Kapoor Khan) are all members of the same flight crew. They are singled out and escorted off the plane for interrogation. Despite thorough searches of their belongings and persons, no gold is found.
Although they are dedicated flight attendants, the hard work of these women has not been rewarded with pay for the past six months. Their stories unfold as they navigate the challenges of their careers. Divya, once aspiring to be a pilot, was forced to settle as an air hostess due to financial constraints. Jasmine, raised by her grandfather, hopes to launch her own skincare brand but struggles to secure funding. Meanwhile, Geeta, a former beauty pageant winner, became a flight attendant after her husband’s restaurant venture failed.
As the crew’s financial woes worsen, their daily allowances dwindle to nearly nothing. This leaves them struggling to make ends meet. Despite their hardships, their chairman, Vijay Waliya, encourages them to trust his leadership. However, the reality within Kohinoor Airlines is starkly different from Mr. Waliya’s public assurances. Divya grapples with loan repayment, Geeta still dreams of opening a restaurant in Goa with her husband, and Jasmine desperately seeks funding for her business.
Where did Geeta, Divya and Jasmine find the gold bars?
Amidst the turmoil, Rajvanshi, a fellow crew member, falls ill on a flight with the three women attending to him. In a shocking turn of events, they discover bars of gold concealed on Rajvanshi’s body. Despite his condition, it becomes evident that Rajvanshi will not be able to survive. This prompts Jasmine to suggest stealing some of the gold to solve their financial woes. Sensing the gravity of the situation, Geeta and Divya swiftly reject the idea.
The flight is forced to make an emergency landing, and the authorities uncover the gold with Rajvanshi. However, with Rajvanshi deceased, the investigation hits a dead end, leaving many questions unanswered. Shortly after, the news of Kohinoor Airlines’ bankruptcy makes headlines, pushing the women to reconsider Jasmine’s earlier proposal.
Three months prior to their eventual capture, the women discover that Manoj Mittal is the mastermind behind the gold smuggling operation. They decide to collaborate with him, taking over the role Rajvanshi previously held. Despite Manoj’s initial skepticism about their capabilities as women in the smuggling trade, Divya’s display of strength convinces him otherwise. Eventually, they become the new smuggling team for Mittal Enterprises.
In the beginning, the women face the challenge of concealing the gold without getting caught. So, they melt it down and fashion it into chocolate balls, disguising them as treats for Valentine’s Day. Their scheme proves remarkably successful, evading detection for a significant period.
However, their luck turns when DRA inspector Mala catches wind of their activities. Divya finds herself under suspicion but is saved by customs officer Jaiveer, who falls for her later in the story.
Why does Mala interrogate the women?
The film begins with Jasmine reflecting on the old adage that money can’t buy happiness. However, the women find themselves ecstatic with their newfound wealth. Unfortunately, their bliss is short-lived when news of an impending surprise inspection rattles their world. Tipped off about their alleged gold smuggling operation, Mala interrogates them relentlessly in the present day. Despite a grueling six-hour ordeal, they are found not guilty.
Thanks to Divya’s pilot training, they are able to secure the gold onto the plane’s roof, but their plans get shattered. The news of Kohinoor Airlines’ bankruptcy is publicized, and Jasmine also loses her grandfather.
Suspecting betrayal, the women piece together the truth — Mittal’s wife, an ex-flight attendant. She had orchestrated their downfall to punish her husband for his infidelity. Also, they realize that the actual mastermind behind this is none other than Waliya.
The three women confront Mittal’s wife, who confesses her motives but acknowledges the collateral damage inflicted upon them. In a surprising turn of events, the trio decide to take matters into their own hands after realizing the extent of the suffering caused by Mittal and Waliya’s actions. With the help of Mittal’s wife, they track down Waliya’s whereabouts in Al Burj, determined to right the wrongs and redistribute the wealth.
Their plan involves infiltrating the opulent wedding venue disguised as housekeeping staff at the fanciest hotel in Al Burj. They serve a memorable pizza adorned with 24K gold at the wedding before gaining access to Waliya’s presidential suite.
To their dismay, they discover the suitcases that were once filled with gold are now empty, leaving them crestfallen and back to square one. Desperate for one last chance, they hatch a daring scheme to board Waliya’s private jet bound for the Cayman Islands.
Crew ending: What happens to Geeta, Divya & Jasmine?
Geeta and Jasmine assume the roles of flight attendants, while Divya, fulfilling her long-held dream, takes command of the plane. However, a fight ensues when they encounter a robust and defiant Waliya’s daughter. Despite her apparent strength, they manage to restrain her, and Divya bravely takes control of the plane.
In a tense moment, Divya struggles with the unfamiliar controls and the lack of ground support. Geeta’s quick thinking snaps her back to reality, guiding her through the harrowing landing process. Miraculously, they safely touch down in Nanheri, Divya’s hometown, where a newly built runway sees its first flight. However, it marked a somber occasion: Waliya’s burial.
Towards the end of the film, viewers learn that Divya had secretly tipped off Jaiveer about their plan. This enabled the DRA to apprehend Waliya and seize some of his ill-gotten gold while the women took the remainder to distribute it among those in need.
In a heartwarming finale, Jasmine reflects on the power of unity, comparing their collective strength to that of ants against an elephant. The crew concludes on a triumphant note, with justice served, the oppressed uplifted, and the corrupt held accountable.
