Director Rajesh Krishnan shed light on the film’s inspiration during the recent trailer launch. He confirmed that it draws from real-life incidents within the airline industry.
Speaking on the film’s real-life inspiration, Krishnan stated, “Basically, I think it’s pretty much based on real-life incidents. All this is going on these days. Hum dekh hi rahe hain ki airlines industry ki actually vaat lagi padi hai (we have been witnessing the airline industry going through a torrid time), for whatever reasons.”
The speculation surrounding Crew’s real-life parallels has gained traction, with many drawing connections to the infamous bankruptcy of Kingfisher Airlines. Moments and dialogues in the teaser, such as Kareena Kapoor Khan’s character lamenting about serving complimentary meals, fuel these speculations. Moreover, the characters’ desperation drives them towards criminal activities, which resembles the events surrounding Kingfisher Airlines’ downfall.
For those unfamiliar, Kingfisher Airlines, founded by Vijay Mallya in 2005, initially soared high with its impeccable service and competitive pricing. However, mounting losses led to its eventual showdown in 2012, leaving thousands of employees unpaid and sparking a nationwide outcry.
