Thangalaan is an upcoming Tamil drama film, starring Vikram in the lead role. Makers are fueling fans’s anticipation around its release. A popular OTT platform confirmed its digital premiere on the platform even before its theatrical release.
Directed by Pa. Ranjith, Thangalaan is expected to hit big screens in April 2024. However, makers have not yet unveiled the exact release date. Earlier, its release was scheduled for January 26, 2024.
Thangalaan is set against the backdrop of British India, in which Vikram plays the role of tribal leader and fights against the British government, which controls the world’s biggest mine. The Britishers carried over 900 tonnes of gold to England. The film features Malavika Mohanan, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Daniel Caltagirone, and others in pivotal roles along with Vikram.
As per Hindustan Times, makers have revealed that Thangalan will explore why India was called ‘Sone Ki Chidiya'(Golden Bird). The movie will primarily focus on the true story behind the Kolar Gold Fields (KGF), Karnataka.
When is Vikram’s Thangalaan coming out?
For those unaware, Vikram was last seen in Ponniyin Selvan 1 and 2, depicting the role of Aditha Karikalan. Both sequels were well-praised by audiences and critics. After gracing the theaters with the Ponniyin Selvan franchise, Vikram is ready to grace the big screens again.
Anticipation is high; fans eagerly await to witness Vikram’s warrior avatar again. Ahead of its theatrical release, the popular OTT platform Netflix has announced that Thangalaan is coming soon on Netflix. They further revealed that it will be available in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi.
However, the makers have yet to announce the exact date of its theatrical release. So, viewers have to wait till further announcement. As per the recent trend, the movie is usually released 45-60 days after its theatrical run on OTT platforms. So, it is safe to assume that the audience must wait at least 2-3 months to experience its OTT release.
While Netflix bags the OTT rights, it would be interesting to await the movie’s release.
