Mammootty’s latest film, Bramayugam, has left the viewers in awe of the megastar’s commendable performance. He played a sinister role opposite Arjun Ashokan, who played an enslaved folk singer in the movie. The film has amazed the audience as its story sent chills down the viewers’ spines. While the movie’s story looks as scary and thrilling as possible, its director, Rahul Sadasivan, revealed whether it is real.
Bramayugam is a story about a folk singer who manages to escape enslavement. After wandering in the wild for some time, he takes refuge in a mysterious house, a mana, owned by a powerful old man. However, he soon realizes the presence of an evil entity in the house, and what happens next shapes the movie’s story.
Bramayugam director reveals his inspiration behind the horror thriller
Bramayugam’s director, Rahul Sadasivan, is known for his previous horror film, Bhoothakaalam. In an interview with The Hindu, the director revealed that Bramayugam’s story was with him before his 2022 movie. He said, “I wanted to tell a story from folklore. The inspiration was perhaps images etched in my mind during my visits to my parent’s place in Palakkad. The rural landscape with heritage ancestral houses, some of them deserted, and the ambiance remained with me. I have gone back to those vignettes to write the story.”
However, the director confirmed that Bramayugam is an entirely fictional story. The film’s team went the extra mile to set up the mana (mansion) in the movie. They even grew the wild grass around the mansion two months before the film’s shoot. Sadasivan added, “Even though I was telling a fictional story, creating a believable setting was important for me. I wanted everything to look real, without any gimmicks. For instance, the kitchen had to look filthy and messy and you realize the reason as the story progresses.”
The Telugu, Tamil, and Kannada versions of Bramayugam will be released on February 23, 2024.
