After the news of Preity Zinta starring in Sunny Deol‘s Lahore 1947, actor Abhimanyu Singh has also reportedly joined the cast. This Rajkumar Santoshi directorial is produced by Aamir Khan Productions.
The period drama will see Sunny Deol, Rajkumar Santoshi, and Aamir Khan team up for the first time for a movie. However, Rajkumar Santoshi and Sunny Deol have previously worked together in Ghayal (1990), Damini (1993), and Ghatak: Lethal (1996). The upcoming movie will be a partition drama based on the cult play Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya O Jamyai Nai by Asghar Wajahat. It also stars Shabana Azmi and Mona Singh, among others.
Abhimanyu Singh to play villain in Lahore 1947
As per recent reports, Rajkumar Santoshi has roped in Abhimanyu Singh as the antagonist for Lahore 1947. A source close to the development revealed, “Rajkumar Santoshi films always have a strong antagonist that lives on for generations and the filmmaker is attempting to bring back the era of hero vs villain back in a big way with Lahore: 1947 too. After contemplating on several names, Santoshi has locked Abhimanyu Singh to play the negative lead in Lahore: 1947. It’s a strong character that engages in a battle royale with Sunny Deol all through the narrative.”
The source further added that Abhimanyu Singh will be joining Sunny Deol and the team on the sets of Lahore 1947 shortly. A R Rahman has composed the music and background score for the movie, while Javed Akhtar has penned the lyrics. As per rumors, Aamir Khan might make an extended cameo in the movie, but the confirmation is pending.
Previously, director Rajkumar Santoshi shared his plan for the movie. He said, “If everything goes as planned, we will take the film on floors from March 1 in Mumbai. We will be creating Lahore City in a studio. The set is a part of the story and a large chunk of film will be shot on this set. It’s a very ambitious film. This is my dream. I have been planning to make it for the last 10 years and the things have finally fallen into place.”
