Directed by C.S. Karthikeyan, Saba Nayagan is a 2023 coming-of-age movie featuring Ashok Selvan, Megha Akash, Karthika Muralidharan, Chandini Chowdary, and others. It was released in theaters on December 22, 2023. It is a Tamil language movie that promises a mixture of love, emotions, and entertainment.
The film kicks off with a night scene in Chennai, where a sub-inspector, along with two constables, are patrolling ahead of the elections. During the patrolling, they find intoxicated Saba and another young man with two beer bottles, resulting in their arrests. While being taken to the hospital for a sobriety checkup, the young man begins recounting his heartbroken love story to the police officers. He further states that they arrested him before he drank. Upon hearing his heart-wrenching story, the police release the young man. Observing the sympathetic nature of the police officers towards the heartbroken individual, Saba also attempts to soften their hearts by sharing his poignant story with the police.
Saba begins narrating his story, starting at the class orientation program where he fell in love with Esha at first sight. Esha hailed from another city. During orientation, Saba’s friend informed him that she would only converse in English and wasn’t very familiar with the Tamil language. Saba and his friends, Dinesh and Karthik, struggled to speak English.
Saba continuously tried to find opportunities to talk to Esha, but he failed to do so. Initially, he believed that he was the only one who loved Esha, but soon, he realized that many other boys were planning to propose to her. Saba’s friends also told him that Esha and Ashwin liked each other. After knowing the truth, Saba felt disappointed. However, after a few days, the college witnessed a hockey competition in which Saba’s performance impressed Esha.
The story progresses as all the students gather for farewell. Saba intended to express his feelings to Esha, but he also failed here. Until the end of school life, Saba couldn’t communicate his feelings to Esha, and she remained unaware of him. The main reason was that they both belonged to different class sections.
Was Saba able to talk with Esha?
After completing his intermediate education, Saba enrolled in college, where he met his new love interest, Riya. He believed that he was in love with Riya and vice versa. In college, Riya and Saba were pursuing different courses, so to facilitate communication, Saba appointed his roommate, Gokul, as a messenger of Riya. After some time, he discovered that Riya had fallen in love with Gokul. This is the second time when Saba faced failure in his love life.
The storyline further unfolds as Saba’s cousin opens a ladies’ designer clothing showroom. During a visit to her showroom, Saba encountered his school crush, Esha, once again. He introduced himself as the owner of the showroom. It was the first time Saba noticed that Esha had no trouble speaking the local language. Soon, they became good friends.
The story took an unexpected turn when Saba expressed his feelings to Esha. However, Esha rejected the proposal, stating that she already had a boyfriend. Despite putting in a lot of effort, Saba had yet to find his soulmate.
Saba Nayagan ending: Did Saba/Aravind find his soulmate?
After learning about Esha’s boyfriend, Saba began a post-graduation course in MBA, where he met Megha. Saba and Megha were both on the same team during a college presentation. While preparing for the presentation, Saba disclosed his full name, Sahaye Babu Aravind, aka Saba. Over time, they developed feelings for each other. This marked the first time a girl proposed to Saba and expressed a desire to marry him, bringing his love life to a happy ending.
Upon concluding telling his story to the police officers, a group of armed individuals attacks the Sub-inspector, but Saba intervenes and saves him. Later, the inspector expresses gratitude to Saba for saving his life and also reveals that he is greatly inspired by Saba’s love life.
At the end of Saba Nayagan, the audience witnesses a significant twist as the story reveals that the entire scenario was pre-planned by Aravind and his friend. The main motive behind this plan was to separate the person who currently loves Esha, i.e., the Sub-inspector. The movie concludes with a scene depicting the reunion of school batchmates.
