On February 9, two major movies of Tamil and Telugu cinemas hit the theaters – Lal Salaam and Eagle. Both films were highly awaited and had prominent stars from the two industries. While Rajinikanth had an extended cameo in Lal Salaam, Ravi Teja was seen in a completely new role in Eagle. Despite the anticipation around the two films, both are seemingly struggling at the box office. However, Eagle has taken the lead and beaten Lal Salaam in just five days.
Lal Salaam and Eagle deal with very different issues. The Rajinikanth starrer saw Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth play two aspiring cricketers from different religious backgrounds. Due to some politicians’ interference, they accidentally spark communal riots. However, peace is restored in their village. Religious and caste discrimination are the sensitive grounds on which the movie’s story is framed.
On the other hand, Ravi Teja plays an assassin in Eagle who is on a secret mission to expose an illegal trade. However, during his mission, he faces many difficulties. Kavya Thapar and Anupama Parameswaran play crucial roles in this Karthik Gattamneni directorial.
Ravi Teja’s Eagle the lead, Rajnikanth’s Lal Salaam traces behind
Ravi Teja’s Eagle has certainly taken a lead at its box office race with Rajinikanth’s Lal Salaam. However, the difference is not that much. According to Sacknilk.com, Eagle is facing a major drop in its per-day collection. The film minted only $168.5K on Day 5 in India. Now, the movie’s total worldwide collection, so far, has reached $3.05 million.
Rajinikanth’s Lal Salaam, on the other hand, is not performing as expected. The movie is seeing a dip in its collection every passing day, and it has certainly become concerning for its makers. On Day 5, as per the same publication, the film earned only $174.5K net in India. While it is a bit higher than Eagle, the movie’s total worldwide collection is still behind. After five days in the theaters, Lal Salaam has grossed $2.7 million at its worldwide box-office collection.
It would be interesting to watch with what collection both these movies end their box-office run.
