After having a tremendous run in Jailer, Rajinikanth‘s latest film, Lal Salaam, finally arrived in theaters on February 9, 2024. Lal Salaam had a comparatively smaller opening at the box office than Jailer. The film has minted over $427K in India’s net collection on its opening day. Its entire worldwide collection currently stands at around $1.2 million.
Directed by Rajinikanth’s daughter, Aishwarya Rajinikanth, the film features Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth in the lead roles, with Rajinikanth making an extended cameo as Moideen Bhai. The Tamil sports drama received mixed reviews from the audience and critics.
The storyline revolves around two cricketers—Thiru and Shamsuddin—from Murrabad, a village where Hindus and Muslims live happily together. However, the story takes an unexpected turn when local politicians intend to incite the communal riots to capitalize on the upcoming election. Amidst this, Moideen Bhai believes in his ethics and wants to bring harmony to society by educating people.
With a budget of around $9.6-10.8 million, the film has been produced under the banner of Lyca Productions. On IMDb, Lal Salaam has received a rating of 5.3/10, while BookMyShow has rated the film 7.3/10 with around 13.4K votes.

As per trade analyst website Sacnilk, Lal Salaam has minted over $427K in India’s net collection on its opening day. Meanwhile, Jailer collected $1.42 million on its opening day.
Talking about its day 3 worldwide collection, Lal Salaam has garnered a collection of $1.2 million. However, as the movie is running in theaters, the numbers will increase with time. On the other hand, Jailer collected around $28.3 in its first week in India’s net collection. Its total worldwide collection was $72.8 million. Notably, Jailer ranks among the highest-grossing films of Rajinikanth.
