Abhay Deol‘s most talked-about romantic drama, Dev D, recently hit its 15-year milestone. Considered one of the best to come out of Bollywood, the movie features exceptional cinematography and out-of-this-world music that blends perfectly with the story. Anurag Kashyap wrote and directed the movie alongside Ronnie Screwvala’s UTV Spotboy (now UTV Motion Pictures) and Bindass as producers.
Dev D is a modern-day take on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s classic Bengali novel Devdas. P.C. Barua and Sanjay Leela Bhansali have previously adapted the novel for the screen. The movie also stars Mahie Gill, Kalki Koechlin, Dibyendu Bhattacharya and Manoj Bakshi, among others.
It revolves around Dev, who finds solace in drugs and alcohol after breaking up with his childhood love, Paro. Soon he falls in love with a prostitute, Chanda. It was released theatrically on February 6, 2009, and is available to stream on Netflix.

Dev D Ending: What happens with Leni?
After Paro gets engaged to Bhuvan in Dev D, Dev overhears a conversation and discovers that Sunil lied about Paro. He realizes he has made a mistake, and soon Paro gets married to Bhuvan. Meanwhile, a schoolgirl from a rich family, Leni, falls prey to a leaked MMS video released by her boyfriend. She is the daughter of the High Commissioner of Canada and often gets unwarranted attention due to her clothes. After her father comes across her viral video, he kills himself, and her mother leaves the country without her.
Her father’s family traumatizes Leni, threatening to kill her and bury her in the fields. She decides to leave home and move to Delhi. When her friends refuse to support her, she meets a pimp, Chunni, who offers to help her out with her education in exchange for her body for prostitution.
Does Paro return?
Leni agrees and she uses Chanda as her professional name. She studies during the day and works at night with high-paying customers. However, one day Dev enters her room and falls on her bed. He has now turned to drugs to forget the pain of losing Paro. He later contacts Rasika and takes her to his hotel. But when Rasika realizes that all Dev wanted was to have sex, she leaves. Paro’s family brushes off Dev when he tries to contact her. So, he starts meeting Chanda frequently to try and get over Paro.
Later, when Paro visits Dev, he learns that she is now married to an old man with 2 kids. Paro admits to being happy with Bhuvan and refuses to have sex with Dev, something she wanted to do back when she loved him. She advises Dev to go back home and handle his dad’s business and factories.
What does Dev do with the money?
Dev returns to Chanda and starts thinking that he may be in love with her. But Chanda tells him that he should’ve apologized to Paro and not let his ego get in the way of his love. Eventually, Chanda also falls for Dev over his story with Paro. Although Chunni advises Dev not to fall for Chanda, he realises he really is in love with her. But soon, reality hits both of them, as Chanda is a prostitute and has customers that she could not refuse.
This pushes Dev to go on another one of his drug adventures, which results in him killing 7 people with his car in his drunken haze. His father, who was supporting him financially, dies from the shock of the news. While under custody, he is released to attend his father’s funeral. Even his brother cuts him off from the inheritance and lends him some money to hire a lawyer. But Dev uses the money to travel across the country.
Does Dev find Chanda?
At the end of Dev D, when Dev runs out of money, he returns to Delhi and tries to get in touch with Chanda. He learns that she has left the brothel. He later finds her at a Momo stand they used to visit frequently during the good days and decides to get back together. Chanda helps Dev get back on his feet and start life afresh.
