The weekday blues have cast a shadow over Fighter’s box-office performance. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the Deepika Padukone and Hrithik Roshan’s movie witnessed a further decline and collected $932.5K on Tuesday.
This downturn follows a disappointing Monday, where the film earned a mere $962K. The initial excitement generated by its opening at $2.7 million on Thursday, January 25, and soon after joining the $12 million club over the Republic Day long weekend now seems to be fading.
Moreover, the film has fallen short of the trade’s lofty expectations, once positioning it as the blockbuster of the year. The total collection of Fighter currently stands at $16.1 million.
For Hrithik Roshan, Fighter marks the second consecutive film with underwhelming box-office returns, following the lackluster performance of Vikram Vedha. With hopes pinned on the upcoming War 2, Roshan is eager to deliver the blockbuster success that has eluded him in his recent endeavors.
Film critics have not been entirely forgiving either. In a conversation with Film Companion, Anupama pointed out that the writing in Fighter lacked the effortless and playful charm that made War a hit.
Hrithik Roshan, in response, acknowledged the divergence in tonality, stating, “I would like to believe that my fans and my audience who come to watch my films are a bit more evolved. And they would not need lines like this. So that’s a weight that I bear because as an actor, I don’t cross any lines.”
