Will there be Katrina Kaif & Vijay Sethupathi’s Merry Christmas sequel? Sriram Raghavan answers
Merry Christmas, the gripping mystery thriller led by Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi, has become a festive delight for moviegoers. The film’s compelling storyline and stellar performances, particularly the fresh chemistry, have garnered widespread praise.
In a conversation with India Today, Raghavan discussed whether or not there will be a Merry Christmas sequel. He revealed, “No, I planned this as a small movie and let it be there only. I think of what will happen but will it be dramatically interesting? Is it worth showing or is it best to be left with the feeling that it’s a Christmas special and what you feel is more important and that is something that needs to stay.”
Since its release, Merry Christmas has been lauded for its uniqueness due to its Hichtcock-esque storyline and first-time ever-seen lead actors pairing. In another interview, Raghavan revealed how he chose Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi to headline his latest movie. The former was already finalized, but the latter was chosen later on.
He shared, “The film is about two strangers and everything vitally depended on that. I did meet a couple of actors in Mumbai, but none of the combinations seemed novel. Vijay, as I have already shared, was not my first choice. When I saw his film ’96’, I just fell in love with him and wanted him. My team too was quite surprised and that gave me the impetus that this casting will be interesting.”
As it is now, fans won’t be seeing the pair again in the “Christmas” spirit, but they can revel in the magic of Merry Christmas again after it releases on OTT.
