After having an earth-shattering box office collection in Jailer 1, Superstar Rajnikanth is also set for the Jailer 2. For those unaware, the first sequel of Jailer was released back on August 10, 2023. However, Rajnikanth’s film has shattered multiple records at the box office since its theatrical release, with a collection of $72.7 million worldwide.
Directed and Written by Nelson Dilipkumar, the movie was produced by Kalanithi Maran under the banner of Sun Pictures. Besides Rajnikanth, the film featured Jackie Shroff, Shiva Rajkumar, Tamannaah Bhatia & others etc.
The story plot of the first movie revolves around a retired Jailer named Muthuvel Pandian. Since his retirement, he started to live a comfortable life with his family. However, things get worse when his son Arjun, who is a cop, is investigating a case of robbery against a deadly gangster. Just when he is about to solve the case, he goes missing and, eventually, is declared dead.
Following this, Muthuvel unleashes his inside carnage to take down the gangsters responsible for his son’s death. However, the movie further moves with multiple twists and turns.
Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 sequel likely to start in mid-2025
After the massive success of Jailer 1, as per sources, planning is already underway for the release of its sequel. Reports stated that the script of Jailer 2 is already in the final stage. Further, the viewers can expect an official update about the formal Puja shortly before the cast and crew of the movie finally hit the sets.
In addition, the sequel is expected for its theatrical release next year. However, it is important to note that Rajnikanth is currently working on Gnanavel Raja’s film. Due to this, he might take some time to finish his commitment to them.
Also, after this, the Superstar will start working on Lokesh Kanagaraj’s film in the summer. Later, a film with Mari Selvaraj is expected to be released by the end of 2024. So these are the potential reasons behind the delay for Jailer 2.
Despite this, it will be interesting to witness how the audience will respond to the sequel of the Nelson & RajniKanth collaboration.
