Crossovers in the YRF Spy Universe consistently generate excitement, from Salman Khan‘s cameo in Pathaan to Hrithik Roshan‘s appearance in Tiger 3. Now, speculations have been swirling around the cameo appearances in War 2.
Directed by Ayan Mukerji, War 2 is set to release on August 14, 2025. It will also star N. T. Rama Rao Jr. and Kiara Advani, marking Rama Rao’s Bollywood debut and Advani’s introduction to the Spy Universe. A sequel to War (2019), this action thriller will be the sixth installment in the YRF Spy Universe.
The timeline of War 2 will follow the events after what transpired in Tiger 3. It will set the tone for Tiger vs Pathaan. As per recent reports, producer Aditya Chopra has decided not to have any cameos in his upcoming film, War 2.
Hrithik Roshan’s War 2: Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan cameos may not happen
The Khan cameo saga took a serious turn after producer Aditya Chopra learned his lesson from the organic charm of Salman Khan’s Tiger in Pathaan. This is why he decided to shelve the replication in Tiger 3 due to its lack of organic finesse.
He is also influenced by the industry feedback and has reportedly acknowledged that cameos can be somewhat gimmicky. So, he is planning to include cameos only when they are integral to the script of the film.
A source reported, “Tiger in Pathaan was a novelty and happened organically. Aditya Chopra and Maneesh Sharma tried to create another scenario in the screenplay of Tiger 3 and the scenario was not as organic as it should have been for a superstar cameo. It’s a lesson learnt and the maverick producer has decided to work on his universe plans more seriously.”
Initially, there were talks about Salman Khan’s Tiger and Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan cameos in War 2. But as per recent reports, the narrative will now solely focus on Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, ensuring a story-driven action film without gimmicks.
The source further stated, “Initially, there were plans to bring in Tiger and Pathaan in War 2. But now, it’s going to be a pure Hrithik Roshan and NTR JR. film with no cameos from Tiger and Pathaan in the narrative. War 2 is a story driven action film and there is no space for gimmicks in this Ayan Mukerji film.”
