Bollywood superstar, Shah Rukh Khan, celebrated his 58th birthday in grand style this year. And, he had a special gift in store for his fans on this occasion – the teaser for his highly anticipated film, Dunki. This film marks a momentous collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan and filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani. However, apart from this collaboration, the star cast of Dunki is also something to look forward to.

The Dunki teaser opens with a sequence of men and women, dressed in black, making their way through a desert. Among them is Shah Rukh Khan, who plays the character Hardy. The scene quickly shifts focus to a sharpshooter who is holding his sights on this enigmatic group. As the sharpshooter takes aim and fires; the narrative takes a comical turn, transporting us back in time to the heart of Punjab.
The story revolves around a group of friends, including Shah Rukh Khan’s Hardy, Taapsee Pannu’s Manu, and Vicky Kaushal’s Sukhi. They share a common dream – to work and live in London. Shah Rukh’s character makes a solemn promise to do whatever it takes to fulfill the dreams of his friends and help them reach the shores of London.
Joining the pack are none other than, Boman Irani as Gulati, Vikram Kochhar as Buggu, and Anil Grover as Balli. The speculation is that there will be special cameos by Kajol and Dia Mirza.
Rajkumar Hirani, celebrated for his cinematic masterpieces like Munna Bhai MBBS and 3 Idiots, has crafted a bittersweet tale on migration. The story behind ‘Donkey Flight’ focuses on an unauthorized way to enter countries like Canada, the United States of America, and the United Kingdom. Often the way taken by people who are in search of a better life.
What does Dunki mean in Hindi?
Interestingly, Shah Rukh Khan shed light on the unique title of the film. During an interview at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Saudi Arabia in December 2022, he revealed that Dunki actually means donkey in English. He explained that while the English pronunciation is ‘donkey’, in parts of India, particularly Punjab, it’s pronounced as ‘dunki.’
The name pays homage to the crux of the film.
