2023 is turning out to be the year of Shah Rukh Khan. Following the success of Pathaan and Jawan, the actor will conclude the year with Dunki, slated to be released in December.
Recently, a fan page shared the poster of the upcoming film, which has now gone viral on social media. The caption for the same read, “A soldier’s journey to keep a promise. Rajkumar Hirani’s #Dunki starring #ShahRukhKhan release at Star Cinemas near you on December 21”.

Dunki movie release date, cast & more
The film is scheduled to release on December 22, 2023 in India. Dunki will release internationally on December 21, 2023 just a day before hitting the theatres in India. The film is based on an illegal immigration technique named, “Donkey Flight”. The screenplay for the film is co-written by the director alongside Abhijat Joshi and Kanika Dhillon.
Red Chillies Entertainment and Jio Studios produced the film. Dunki has an ensemble cast of Shah Rukh Khan, Taapsee Pannu, Dia Mirza, and Boman Irani. The film’s cast will also include Dharmendra, Satish Shah, Parikshit Sahni, and a cameo appearance by Vicky Kaushal.
The viral poster of the film reveals Shah Rukh Khan’s character dressed in a soldier’s attire. He also holds a bag and other items in his hands. In front of him, a vast plain desert is visible, bearing the text ‘A Soldier’s Journey To Keep A Promise.’
The film’s premise centers around the concept of “Donkey Flight,” an unlawful entry technique used for nations like the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States of America. Dunki depicts the lives of Indians who choose to enter such nations using this illegal process and struggle to return home.
The production team shot the comedy-drama in London, Budapest, Jeddah, and Neom. Director Rajkumar Hirani made the release announcement of the film last year, where he wrote, “Shah Rukh Khan Aakhir humne ek saath movie banane ka decision le hi liya (We finally managed to make a movie together). Extremely thrilled to announce #Dunki, coming to you next Christmas! Release in cinemas on 22.12.23.”
In addition, Dunki will go head-to-head with Prabhas’ Salaar, which is scheduled for release on the same date.
