Beloved ghoul-slaying heroine returns in new series from Dark Horse Comics.
It seems like even vampire slayers get nostalgic for the good old days of homecomings, math quizzes, and awkward making out behind the bleachers. Dark Horse recently announced a new addition to their Buffy comic mythos titled BUFFY: THE HIGH SCHOOL YEARS which will be placing out titular hero right back where she started in season one. Subtitled Freaks and Geeks, the story will introduce a whole new type of vampire: nerd vampires!
As Buffy adjusts to a new school and new social hierarchy, a group of disenfranchised vampire geeks decide that the best way to climb up the vampire pecking order is to take out the fabled Slayer. Luckily, she wont be alone, as fan-favorites Xander, Willow, and Giles will be right by her side.
The series is written by Eisner-award winner Faith Erin Hicks and artist Yishan Li and hopes to bring back the vibe of the early days of the show. Hicks goes on to say:
Im thrilled to be writing a Buffy the Vampire Slayer comic; the TV show was a formative story for me. I loved it so much that the very first comic I ever created was a Buffy the Vampire Slayer homage. Its beyond exciting to get a chance to write the real thing!
As a self-proclaimed fan, hopes are high for the success of the new series and will be aimed at both young adult and older fan. Joss Whedon is indeed tied to the project.
BUFFY: THE HIGH SCHOOL YEARS will be released in June 2016. Keep coming back to SHOCK for more details as we get them.
